Windows 10: Nothing happens in Word when I click the File or Home menus.

No response at all. Has anyone seen this?

Word files only opening via shortcut

This just happened. Wierd. I navigated to a folder to launch a Word file, and this happened

However, a few minute earlier I had launched another word file from a shortcut on my desktop toolbar no problem. So I created a shortcut for the file in the folder, tried using it, and the same thing happened as before. So, I copied that same shortcut to my desktop toolbar, and now that same shortcut opens the word file normally. The shortcut in the folder still won't open the file. It also opens normally from here

So then I figured the nest step was to use the "More apps" option on the "How do you want to open this file" popup. But where do I navigate to? If I do a start menu search for "Word", it takes me here C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office\Microsoft Office Word 2007.lnk` But a google search reveals other sources that point to here C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE Another suggestion was to repair Office. That fixed it. Sorry for the long winded explanation, but I'm curious how this could happen, and if it might be related to the latest Windows Update which was installed last night?

 

How to pin a WORD FILE to the start menu in Windows 11

In Windows 11, you can still pin a file to the Start menu using the following steps:

1. Locate the Word file you want to pin to the Start menu.

2. Right-click on the file and select "Pin to Start" from the context menu.

3. The file should now appear as a tile in the Start menu.

4. Now, You can drag and drop the tile to rearrange its position on the Start menu.

Feature suggestion: Add right-click menu

Suggestion: Please add a Windows 7 Jump-List and/or right-click menu to the GPU-Z icon in the Windows taskbar. Possible menus in it would be "Exit" and "About GPU-Z...".
Maybe also "Switch to tab 1/Switch to tab 2/Switch to videocard 1/Switch to videocard 2" too.
Examples of programs that have such menus are ICQ, Skype, AIM.

NOTE: It seems for a right-click menu, Windows 7 is not needed - it works on WinXP and Vista too.
But even a Windows 7 Jump-list may be good enough.
