  1. NPS WiFI Logon error 'use an authentication method that is not enabled'

Hi,I'm using NPS RADIUS to logon an user from a PC that is attempting to connect using it's WiFi connector to a corporate network.I'm getting the error:'The user attempted to use an authentication method that is not enabled on the matching network policy'What does this error mean?Does NPS server usually allocate the PC's IP address? How can I tell how this is done?I found the error in the Windows Event Logs. The Event Log entry seems to be able to match[from Event Log details]:Connection Request Policy <- this is in the event log entryNetwork Policy <- this is in the event log entryThes

    :)

Windows 7 virtual wifi authentication mode

    Hello.

Just a quick question to whoever is using windows 7 virtual wifi capability - when you type in "netsh wlan show hostednetwork", cmd window displays a list of settings for your hosted virtual wifi.

I was wondering, is there a way to change authentication method from WPA2-Personal to simple WEP ?

    Cheers.

  3. Wifi PEAP-MSCHAPv2 Authentication In Combination With Microsoft NPS

    Hi,

I'm setting up a wireless network with an authentication backend based upon Microsoft NPS and Microsoft AD:

    Nokia E71/E72

Laptops <=> Trapeze AP's <=> Trapeze WSS <=> MS NPS <=> MS AD

    HTC S740

The authenticationprotocol we're using is PEAP-MSCHAPv2.

In short I can't seem to get it to work on either a Nokia E71 or E72 while it works perfectly on our laptops using either the native Microsoft WZC or Intel PROSet and on a HTC S740.

In the NPS event log, the same event occurs 3 times (some information is obfuscated for obvious reasons), the critical part I guess is the last line "An internal error occurred". I can really only guess why there would be an internal error with the Nokia
phones and not with any other phones or laptops. The eventlogentry on the Microsoft NPS:

Network Policy Server discarded the request for a user.

Contact the Network Policy Server administrator for more information.

    User:

    Security ID: TESTDOMAIN\testuser

    Account Name: testuser

    Account Domain: TESTDOMAIN

    Fully Qualified Account Name: TESTDOMAIN\testuser

    Client Machine:

    Security ID: NULL SID

    Account Name: -

    Fully Qualified Account Name: -

    OS-Version: -

    Called Station Identifier: NASMAC:SSID

    Calling Station Identifier: CLIENTMAC

    NAS:

    NAS IPv4 Address: NASIP

    NAS IPv6 Address: -

    NAS Identifier: Trapeze

    NAS Port-Type: Wireless - IEEE 802.11

    NAS Port: 13994

    RADIUS Client:

    Client Friendly Name: Trapeze MX-400

    Client IP Address: NASIP

    Authentication Details:

Connection Request Policy Name: Out Of The Box Secure Wireless Connections

Network Policy Name: Out Of The Box Secure Wireless Connections

    Authentication Provider: Windows

    Authentication Server: testwinNPS.testdomain.local

    Authentication Type: EAP

    EAP Type: -

    Account Session Identifier: -

    Reason Code: 1

Reason: An internal error occurred. Check the system event log for additional information.

The settings I'm using on both Nokia E phones:

    Connectionname: SSIDname

    Bearer: Wireless LAN

    WLAN networkname: SSIDname

    Networkstatus: public

    WLANmode: Infrastructure

    WLANsecurity: 802.1x

    WPA/WPA2: EAP

EAP-PEAP is enabled and set to highest priority

    Personal Certificate: none

Authority Certificate: the root certificate of our internal CA which signed the NPS certificate

    Username in use: userdefined

Username: testuser (I have played with this using constructs like testdomain\testuser)

    Securitydomain: userdefined

Securitydomain: empty (I have played with this setting it to testdomain)

    PEAPv0: allowed

    PEAPv1: not allowed

    PEAPv2 not allowed

EAP-MSCHAPv2 is enabled and set to highest priority

Username: testuser (I have played with this using constructs like testdomain\testuser)

    Ask Password: no

Password: the password of the testuser

    All encryption combinations are enabled

When I then try to connect with these settings it starts to connect and after a few seconds gives an "EAP-PEAP authentication failed" error.

Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

NPS WiFI Logon error 'use an authentication method that is not enabled'

Enabling Authentication tab in WiFi properties in Windows 10

    Hello Kapildev,

The authentication of the WiFi profile will depend on the security settings of the modem. You may try to enable the
Authentication tab of your WiFi by performing the same steps you did in
Wired AutoConfig, and then choose WLAN AutoConfig. See image below:
