  1. Nslookup.exe using lots of CPU and hiding when opening Task Manager

Hello! For some time already I've noticed a strange behavior from my computer. Namely the fan speed goes up and I understand something is taking the computing power. When opening Task Manager, it wont show anything but CPU usage dropping sharply and fan slows down. After closing TM, the fan speed goes up again.I did some research and downloaded Process Lasso which showed me that a process called nslookup.exe is using lots of CPU but stops doing that as I open TM, and after closing TM it gets back using the CPU. Now I've read some other threads here and it could possibly be a well hidden miner b

  2. Task Manager High CPU Usage

I have the same problem myself with it only happens when I scroll through task manager and open and close it. I don't know this for sure but the reason this probably happens is that you may have a lot of processes running and task manager is using a lot
of the CPU to process the usage of each program.

What I have done is disable data that I don't need to see like network usage and GPU usage and it drops the CPU usage a bit. I have also enabled everything and scrolled up and down on it and task manager uses almost twice as much.

I would suggest disabling everything but CPU, disk, and RAM, (I would not suggest having GPU on because it is almost always at 99% unless you have FPS limits).

  3. CPU at 100% that goes away when opening Task Manager

Thanks for your answer @Jay#222. I understand that a computer is doing a lot in the background. In that case above, I was using Adobe Lightroom which is heavy on the CPU but I might get this when I'm just using Google Chrome googling things. Its weird to
me because upon opening the Task Manager, my CPU calms down when it might have been working hard for quite some time. My CPU might be working hard for 10 minutes and then upon opening Task Manager, it calms down. I'm sure if it listed the CPU usage prior to
opening the Task Manager, it would be 90%-100% usage all prior. Is it something like the Task Manager flushes processes and that's why it drop significantly? And I mean it drops to the point where the fan will calm down and my laptop will not lag much.

Nslookup.exe using lots of CPU and hiding when opening Task Manager

    OVER 160 RunDll32.exe in TASK MANAGER !

Have you got lots of Rundll32.exe or svchost.exe processes running, or both?

On a normal Windows 10 system, you should not have any Rundll32.exe processes running at all. Check your startup apps the see what is causing this:

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc together to open Task Manager, click on the Startup Tab and see if there are any entries that are starting under rundll32, if there are, disable them
    • Press WIndows + R keys together to open the run dialog, type msconfig and hit enter. Click on the services tab and check the box marked 'Hide all Microsoft Services'. Then scroll through the list of services looking for rundll32 entries, if you find any,
      uncheck them and reboot

With regards to svchost, i have noticed a huge increase in the number of these processes since the Creators Upgrade - I have 77 currently running on my system. They all are using 0% processor and HDD and on average about 1MB - 2MB, though this number does
    seem excessive . . .
