NTUSER.DAT Delete??

Since I updated to 1607 today, I've got this annoying file called this. It just will not delete, period. I know people will say this is a system file etc. But it doesn't make sense. Under details, it says it's '5KPlayer.dat' and I deleted that program a while ago.
Same as I am having problems deleting the entire Windows.old folder. Microsoft seriously **** me off at times. Nothing is ever made simple. I didn't even want the ****ing update to begin with. It hasn't done anything! Any suggestions?

:)

ntuser.dat

I opened a bogus email from Amazon that had a tab for purchase details which I tried to access.

Did I allow someone to have access o my computer?

I noticed a ntuser.dat file created the same day as the email with 8,704 KB. Should I delete this?

Hello,

The ntuser.dat is a type of registry file that contains the registry setting of your account. We don't have to delete it as it might affect the user preference settings and may corrupt your user profile.

We suggest that you run the pre-installed Windows Defender on your device to protect your device from viruses or threats. You visit this
link for more information about Windows Defender.

Regards.

NTUSER.DAT Delete??

You must have hidden files enabled. Do you really need them enabled? I would be wary of deleting them.

I guess it's the 'ocd' in me lol. It's just that it wasn't there prior to the upgrade. And I don't get why it has 5kplayer linked to it? Seems a bit bogus as well.

Hi,

Don't touch it. It's likely a registry database. If you must delete it then make a copy of it and put it on a different partition or something along those lines and see how that goes.

As for Windows.old, use windows own Disk Clean utility and opt for system files. Deleting it manually is a true PITA.
Or leave it for 30 days and it will vanish all by itself.

Cheers, *Wink

I'm currently doing a deep clean via CCleaner. It's so far got rid of most of the Windows.old folder. Does it actually delete after 30 days? And any idea why the NTUSER file has 5kplayer on it? *Smile

NTUSER.DAT Delete??

Hi,

Most of the time Ccleaner can remove everything in that folder that is no longer "active".

No idea but I really doubt that game would use a file name that's the exact same name as the user registry database.

Can you tell me in what folder it's located ?

Cheers, *Wink

10. Code: attrib +S +H path-to-file
Run that from an elevated prompt and it will no longer be visible.

If you run regedit.exe. HKEY_CURRENT_USER is the content of NTUSER.dat. If you delete it, you'll break Windows.

FYI. Windows Registry database is actually a bunch of files: DEFAULT, SECURITY, SOFTWARE, SYSTEM and stored under: C:\Windows\System32\config
NTUSER.dat is created separately for each user and is under: C:\Users\
is your username

Hi,

And that's where the registry databases are located so you'd better not touch it.
It's around 1.5 Mb is size after a clean install.

NTUSER.DAT Delete??

Hi,

Run that from an elevated prompt and it will no longer be visible.
I suspect OP has hidden system files unhidden in explorer view chasing the last byte removable. *Wink

14. I've got the same problem with only hidden files visible and it reoccurs on every upgrade.

It's 3.5MB. Reckon it's best to leave it then? I can hide it. Still don't get why it has 5KPlayer attached to it though. Not unless it became kind of corrupt due to the upgrade or something. Just worried it's malware or a virus, even though system is clean.
