    Num Lock Issue


    Had to join Office 365 community, which uses Microsoft account.....blah, blah. The account is in my husband's name. When I logged in using his account, my settings were changed to his settings. He NEVER uses the numeric keypad for numbers; I almost always do. However, now my number pad is not usable. I've read about pressing the NumLock button during start-up, but my Dell wireless keyboard has no NumLock button. It's supposed to be a dedicated number pad. It has no arrows on it because arrow keys are on another part of the keyboard.


    I can't tell you how many hours we have spent updating, correcting, fixing, trying to figure out how to fix things that Microsoft does to the computers. I'm really tired of it. I don't want to keep "fixing" things that should never have been changed.


    Also, at no time during this Office 365 process were we ever informed that he should invite me to join his account. Learned by accident (sigh)……..I'm asked to log on, but Microsoft is not accepting his password when I try. Does not indicate that I should have my own password. Ugh.


    Does anyone have an idea what I should do using Microsoft? I don't want to download someone else's "fix" when they can't even correctly spell "patented."

    Num Lock issue on Windows 10

    Hi,

    I realize that you are facing issues with the Num Lock on your PC. I will try to help you with this issue.

    You may plug in an external keyboard to the PC to check if the Num Lock issue reoccurs. You may also want to use the on-screen keyboard to check if that helps.

    Follow these steps to launch the On-screen keyboard:


    • Press Windows key + R to get the run window.

    • Type “osk” and hit enter to launch the On-screen keyboard and check if this helps.

    NUM Lock issue

    Hi Karl,

    The status of the NUM LOCK key is specific for each user, and NUM LOCK is disabled by default. If you want the NUM LOCK key enabled for use before a user presses CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on, you must use Registry Editor to change the default behavior.

    To enable NUM LOCK before a user logs on, follow these steps:

    • Run Registry Editor.
    • Move to HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.
    • Change the value for InitialKeyboardIndicators from 0 to 2.

    IMPORTANT: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these

    Since that you have done that method, we suggest that you disable fast startup to enable Num Lock:

    • Click on Start.
    • Type Control Panel and press Enter.
    • Set View by to Small icons.
    • Click on Power Options.
    • Click on Choose what the power buttons does on the left pane.
    • Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    • Scroll down and uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
    • Restart your PC and check if the is resolved.
