Windows 10: Numerous duplicate files created which are unopenable; usually 4 KB and renamed to start...

They are duplicates in the same folder and on a Flash drive. With 4KB I suspect that they are titles only. They aren't of all the files in the folder so I suspect that they are ones that have been opened; the dates "modified" are well after the original. They may have been opened on an Apple Mac which is the chief suspect at this stage. Chat GPT produced a collection of maybe's and possible corrupt flash drive suggestions; and yes I know I could try experimenting but would much rather find out if anyone has had the same issue and isolated the cause?

Bug: cannot rename the file/dir to a name starting with "."

Just try to create, using Explorer GUI, a new dir with the name starting with "."

Surely it will, as usually in Windows, create "New Folder" and then rename to the new name.

And the rename step fails with the error of "Rename: You must type a file name"

"md" and "move" from the command line work fine.

 

Mirrored or Duplicate File

I suspect this folder is the folder usually named My Musicor Music. It must have gotten renamed when you
moved the files to the G drive.

Finding duplicate files

Hey hey,

During the years the backups have just accumulated in random places, essentially, and I would like to clean up. Is there a program that can search for duplicate files? And by that I mean identical files. I tried dupeGuru, but that somehow found ... all files to be identical I guess? Like how a bunch of jpg's with different names, sizes and locations being marked 100% identical, or how a bunch of xls-files with completely different everything also were 100% matches with each other. I don't need any fancy functions, just a list of the files that share the name and filesize and created/last write dates.
