Windows 10: NumLock for alt codes?

I was trying to use alt codes for a certain project, specifically alt + 96. However, instead of getting the ` sign which I was supposed to get, nothing appeared on the screen. My method of using the alt code was:1. Hold the ALT2. Press the numbers 9 and then 6 in a sequencenot holding them3. Let go of the ALTI then realized the method did not work, so I attempted to turn on NumLock, but cannot find a NumLock on my computerWindows 10 laptop. I looked through settings to find NumLock, to the same result.How would I enable NumLock to use Alt Codes?

It does do that, mlee. All buttons have tooltips with the alt code and a description listed in it.

The masculine ordinal number in Spanish, Italian and Portugese? I'm not even sure what it is for ... lol

 

No Alt codes working

To better assist you with your concern, I'd like to know the following:

• Confirm which build is currently installed on your device. To check, follow the steps below:

1. Press Windows key + R, then type in winver.
2. Click OK.

• Were there any recent changes made prior to this issue?
• What is the make and model of your computer?
• Does the issue happens to all applications?
• Please check if the NumLock is turn on. Also, try using another keyboard and check if the Alt codes are working.

All alt codes doesn't work

I am trying to add some special characters using alt codes on my laptop running Windows 10. None of the codes work.

I tried random alt codes to see if the problem was the specific characters and none of them work.

I am using an external numpad because my laptop doesn't come with one and doesn't have the Numlock option on the keyboard. The numpad is working properly for input

Steps that I have done:

1. Turn off the 'Use Mousekey when Numlock is On' as per this post (my default was Mousekey off altogether). I
know that other advice suggested otherwise (turn it on instead). But that doesn't make sense for me because then I couldn't use the numpad for its default use. I also used the alt codes at the office with a keyboard+numpad and I think the Mousekey was off
as well.

2. Adding EnableHexNumpad to the registry

Please let me know if there are other things I could do or what the cause might be.
