Windows 10: Nvida GTX 650Ti - 6Pin connector

Hi all, this is not really a question about Windows 10 but rather some basics of installing a new graphics card.

My friend has recently bought a GTX 650Ti graphics card and wants to use it in a Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop PC.

We have got as far as installing it into the PCI bus on the motherboard and it seems to be working (the fan is running). However it does not appear as a new device when the computer is turned on.

I have configured the BIOS correctly to use a PCI/IGD so both the internal and GTX graphics should be detected.

I have found out online that the GTX 650Ti needs also a secondary power cable to be plugged into a 6pin port on the card. The computer's power supply does not have a spare 6pin connector, neither any molex ports. It only has a spare SATA power cable and a SATA data cable.

So I would like to know would I be correct in buying this sort of cable to run the Nvida GTX 650Ti?

Upgraded PC to Windows 10 and won't wake-up from Sleep Mode

Did all that was suggested and it says it fixed a power issue and it updated the GTX-650ti graphics driver but it still goes into power saving mode and I have to turn it off and then back on to start the process over again.

You would need a 4-pin molex to 6-Pin PCI-E Power adapter.

How much watts does the PSU have?

 

Ah I see. How would I go about connecting the 4 pin molex when I only have a SATA power cable though?

I'm not sure how many watts but what would be the minimum amount of watts to power the graphics card?

 

The SATA to PCI-E cable would serve the same function as the Molex to PCI-E adapter that you mention.

Whether it'd work well, I don't know. a 6 pin PCI-E cable is required to deliver as much as 75W.

The GTX 650 ti is spec'd at a maximum power draw of 110W, with a minimum recommended PSU size of 400W.
