  1. Nvidia driver 368.20 from WU - WDDM 2.1 and DirectX DDI 11.4.

The nvidia drivers have been updated on WU, to version 368.20.
I opened DXDiag and noticed WDDM was also updated to v2.1 and the DirectX DDI to v11.4.

Is this a beta driver? Or is DxDiag displaying incorrect information?

Because the latest driver from the nvidia site (368.29) shows WDDM 2.0 and DX DDI 11.3.

    :)

    Windows 10 shows Direct x 12

I have not yet tried the windows 8 drivers but I did uninstall the manufacturers drivers for the graphics card and installed through windows update the Microsoft ones I believe the results have narrowed it down to being a driver issue as now it reports directx
11.2 instead of 11.3 in the dxdiag results and the driver info changed from showing.

    Driver Name: nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvd3dum,nvwgf2um,nvwgf2um,nvwgf2um

    Driver File Version: 10.18.0013.6175 (English)

    Driver Version: 10.18.13.6175

    DDI Version: 11.3

    Feature Levels: 11.0,10.1,10.0,9.3,9.2,9.1

    Driver Model: WDDM 2.0

    to showing

    Driver Name: nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvd3dum,nvwgf2um,nvwgf2um,nvwgf2um

    Driver File Version: 10.18.0013.5891 (English)

    Driver Version: 10.18.13.5891

    DDI Version: 11.2

    Feature Levels: 11.0,10.1,10.0,9.3,9.2,9.1

    Driver Model: WDDM 1.3

This would seem to indicate the issue is with the graphics driver as changing the driver did change the directx version reported in dxdiag though lowering the version number rather than increasing the number.

  4. Nvidia driver 368.20 from WU - WDDM 2.1 and DirectX DDI 11.4.

I sincerely doubt it's a beta driver. WU only serves up WHQL drivers, I believe. If you run dxdiag, it should tell you if it's WHQL or not.

I tend to download my drivers directly from Nvidia, as the drivers Windows Update provides are stripped down (no Nvidia Control Panel) and tend to be older and not updated as often. Still, it's weird that it would have seemingly newer technologies than the newest drivers on Nvidia's website.

    Here's what I've found about D3D 11.4, via Microsoft:

As for WDDM 2.1, I can't really seem to find anything relevant on it. Sorry.

  5. Yep, seems the drivers are WHQL. Maybe WDDM 2.1 and D3D 11.4 are specific for Redstone and require this specific driver version to be enabled?

I couldn't find much info about this too.

  6. Windows update has never pulled in new nvidia drivers automatically for me in the 6 months I've had the machine. I'm still on 355 driver branch. I'm not complaining as I would hate Windows update to do this as I only want to update gpu drivers when I'm good and ready - but I do wonder how Windows update works in this respect, are drivers likely to come tumbling down the pipe when I least expect it? Seems strange it hasn't happened at all. I did get an automatic driver update for my gigabit Ethernet a while back so the feature is active.

  7. I read somewhere that the "Fast Ring" is also used to update drivers. Maybe 368.20 is available only for insiders, and will eventually hit the general public.

    I may be wrong though.

  8. Nvidia driver 368.20 from WU - WDDM 2.1 and DirectX DDI 11.4.

Ok thanks - I know it's possible to tell Windows 10 not to update drivers but unfortunately it seems to be an all or nothing scenario. Gpu drivers are definetely something I don't want being tampered with but I want to keep the option enabled so if other devices or hardware is installed they will get the drivers. It's just strange that in six months they have never updated - I guess I've been lucky !! Quite why MS does not allow us the option to refuse a driver update is baffling - if it ain't broke then I don't fix it!!!

  9. And the worst is that the OS will install/Update the display drivers even if you disable this option on Advanced System Properties > Hardware.

    This happened once :/
    Maybe just a bug.

windows updates only installs the main driver for image on screen.
not any Physx or 3D bla bla drivers fro gaming.

if you game , download the full nvidia package and fresh reinstall.
after build update , Intel or Nvidia sound drivers might also be stuck in windows .old.
system cleaner will have trouble remove the folder if you used that.

best is to install IGPU and GPU drivers after build updates.
and fastboot in windows 10 is bugging nvidia features , like color management.

can disable that at energy settings , choose what power buttons do page.
