Windows 10: Nvidia Driver Install Location?

Hey guys, just wondering, where am I supposed to install my Nvidia drivers?

Directly in my C drive C:/Nvidia or in program files (x86)?

Windows 10 exits Fullscreen mode in games randomly and sometime on the hour and hour 1/2

I have had issues with installing the Nvidia software as it fails to install, every time. I have uninstalled the software and drivers but it seems that windows will automatically install the driver on a reboot. I have no issues with installing the Motherboard
driver. Once I configured the monitors to run in surround with the new installed driver that windows automatically installed I ran Battlefield 4 and the same problem persists.

With installing the software from Nvidia, I have tried the following

* renaming the directory before the new install c:\Nvidia & C:\Program Files\Nvidia.. & C:\Program Files (x86)\Nvidia..

* Removing entries in the registry regarding Nvidia

* Fresh download from Nvidia

* changed the compatibility mode and ran in Administrator

* when Installing the Nvidia software I consistently get the error "NVIDIA Installer Failed"

 

Windows 10 and compatibility with NVIDIA windows 10 driver 355.82

I have windows 10 installed and was notified by NVIDIA about an update to their graphics driver. I tried to install the update from Nvidia, Nvidia Windows 10 Driver 355.82. However the installation failed and the screen notification read as follws:

"This NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of windows.

This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."

Prior to using Windows 10 all Nvidia updates downloaded successfully.

I have also fed back this info to NVIDIA.

 

I just tend to leave them at the default location, which is C:/Nvidia. Haven't had any issues doing it that way.

 

The nVidia installer will want to expand the installation files into a C:\nVidia folder. Not in Program Files (x86).
But you can direct the installer to expand the files anywhere (Custom Install option).

I have my nVidia folder on my partition D: which is on a spinning hard disk. I don't use partition C: because it is on an SSD and the nVidia files are constant writes and rewrites.

 

The Nvidia driver will install to where it is needed. There is an initial decompression to the C:\Nvidia folder, default, and then it installs from that.

Those are just install files used for installation perhaps other trivia. You can delete those install files if you wish. The actual driver files are elsewhere, in mine in Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation

 

Anyway to install just the driver without the out of date WinXP ugly control panel?

 

Download the nVidia upgrade exe file >
Run the exe >
Expand the files to an nVidia folder anywhere you can find it easily >
Uncheck all options except the Driver * >
After install, find the nVidia folder that was created > delete it.

* Best to check the box to do a Clean Installation if you have all the components already installed that you don't want.
