Windows 10: NVIDIA GeForce 610, upgraded version 355.98, now system crashes?!!

Multiple issues with new 355.98 with my GeForce GT610 Video Card, from Kernel to blk. screen and quick recover...any ideas?

I recently (3 days ago) installed an LG 27" Monitor and a GeForce GT610 (2 X's DVI outputs) Video Card. The Card came with version 355.82 I believe? Anyway, when I installed the card, it seemed to work fine. Updates informed me that 355.98 (9/22/15) was available for upgrade, so I upgraded to this version. Since then, I've had nightmares trying to fix this thing! Here are the errors and acting of the upgrade I am experiencing:
Blank Screen, flutter, then works again - stating the system has recovered. (20+ times last week).
Screen freezes, I can move the mouse but nothing works, I have to reboot. (11-12 times in the last week).
Machine suddenly just blinks and then my Dell logo and a reboot occurs! (4 X's in the last week).
My monitor suddenly shows the message: Searching for signal...."no signal, entering power save mode" and then I have to do a complete reboot. (4 times in the last week). AND.....The biggest one (20 X's in one day!) states: DISPLAY DRIVER STOPPED RESPONDING AND HAS RECOVERED - Display Driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 355.98 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

There is no rhyme or reason to the carshes, it doesn’t matter WHAT I may be doing, (Interent use or Locaql use), it just "happens"! I was just going to rollback to the original version, but I hate to go backwards. I've see some posts for different ones of these problems, but I am not sure how to approach
mine with these multiple errors? Can anybody help me? Thanks to all in advance!

(I even had to copy & paste as I wrote this in case it decided to crash - but it behaved...this time!)

my windows 10 pc crashes while trying to install nvidia geforce game ready driver 355.98. kindly give me a solution

 

Unable to Windows 10 with error: "This PC can't run windows 10 because it doesn't meet the system requirements" with graphics card on Windows 8.1

Recently tried to upgrade to windows 10 from windows 8.1, unfortunately windows still detect my old version NVidia GeForce 7300 LE after I finished installing a new GeForce GT 610 with the newest update from NVidia.

Trying to get around this compatibility issue.

What should I do?

I can't believe no one has been able to assist me with this issue?! I have been doing some more of my own research, and found the following. I haven't tried it yet, but will, probably later today.

Windows Kernel Mode Driver error SOLUTION:
To solve this crash problem, when you go to install the Driver(s) [Doesn't matter which one] - Select custom installation and then clean the installation files by UNCHECKING the 3D vision drivers. Last, from the BIOS select in the config. For your PCI-e slot from Auto to Gen2!

So, with this fix I would not be able to utilize my 3D package, which for me right now is OK as I am not doing any gaming with this computer. If it works I will advise this post.

In the interim, if anyone can share some experience on addressing this issue. I would appreciate any feedback, thanks!

I know you don't want to hear this (wait til I tell you what the problem was) but I had a problem like you're describing. However, it was also doing it with Windows 7 and 8.1, so it wasn't just a Windows 10 thing.

After getting black screens all the time, re-installing older drivers, extending the video timeout in the registry and generally pulling my hair out, I finally, finally found the problem.

It wasn't my GTX 650, it wasn't the drivers nor the cable. The monitor was going bad!

Yep. It was the monitor the whole time.

I was getting fooled by what seemed like the black screens only appeared when I installed brand new video drivers but in fact that was all a coincidence. I'm currently waiting for my new 23" monitor. Any bigger is just entirely too large for me.

So, try a different monitor if you have one and I believe you'll see that your monitor is going wacky. I'm still using the problem monitor right now and even though I haven't seen a black screen in like 4 days, it's liable to go black at any time. I do see tiny horizontal streaks zipping (right to left) across the screen once in a while.

I didn't really have the budget to replace this stupid thing right away so I took the back off of the monitor to see if keeping it a little cooler would help anything and it has. Disclaimer: I seriously advise anyone to not do what I just mentioned. With the back off, there are 120 volt wires exposed and if you accidentally put your hand behind the monitor for any reason, you are very likely to get electrocuted.

Anyway, I hope that helps you. I've been a computer technician for 25+ years and it took me at least two weeks to pinpoint the real problem. It had never once crossed my mind that the monitor itself was going bad. I'll know to look for that from now on though.

Thanks! I will try that. As for Murphys Law, I installed a new LG Monitor 27" the same day I did the video card and drivers! Still, it could be that. I have an Apple Cinema Monitor, I'll hook that back up and see. Sometimes It is the simplest thing! And that is usually my luck, what it be the monitor, LOL.

Well, I hooked up an Apple Cinema display and it still crashed, so it is something with my Video Card! I have gone through two updates to newer software and I still have this issue. One thing I was remiss in stating originally is that I bought this card factory reconditioned from NewEgg. I wonder if something is still not corrected from the recondition?!

I'm kind of at a loss here.

 

I would attempt uninstalling the Nvidia driver with DDU and reinstalling it from scratch. Win 10 doesn't always fully uninstall the old driver while updating. Download the driver from the Nvidia website , not from Windows Update.

Well, I just finished what you suggested so we'll see. I used DDU and man, it took everything out, thanks for that tip! Then I re-installed version 358.50 (released 10-7-15), and so far so good. As well, I unchecked the 3D options off the install file so they were not installed, as another person had suggested as that solved their problem.

I'll report back, but so far I am optimistically hopeful, as I haven;t had an incident in the past two (2) hours.

Man, This Card has failed twice now since lastnight. I don;t think there is a fix for this, I suspect there is a defector something?! Anybody have any other ideas? I might try andcontact NVIDIA, don;t know how that will go? Anyone.....HELP?

I am running the SAME driver from Nvidia 358.50 on my GF640 with no problems. Can you roll back to the previous that you were running, before you installed this last update?? That might be your only choice.

Then contact tech support from Nvidia about the latest update, they may have some answers.

 

Maybe your card has overheating problem. When cool, everything is fine, but after some time when temperature rises you get problems. I would try to blow dust away and even remove the fan, clear any old thermal paste residues and apply fresh paste. This should fix the problem. If you cannot do that yourself, ask for a technician to do it.

 

This is a known issue with Fermi architecture GPU's and windows 10, the problem lies with TDR_DELAY which recovers the GPU after the driver fails to respond, we have to wait for a fix unfortunately (fermi GPU's are 645 and below), there are many with this problem, including myself.

 

I have Asus GT620-1GD3 (nVidia GeForce GT 620 1GB DDR3) and didn't have any problem. Isn't my model Fermi? I have Forceware 358.50 installed (latest for 600 series) directly downloaded from nVidia's site. I don't trust Windows Update.

 

I also have the exact same release from Nvidia 358.50 on my GT640 4GB OEM card, with no problems. But I will be updating my gpu within the next few months, looking at a GTX960 4GB SSClock version. *Smile
