Windows 10: Nvidia HD audio device

I recently reinstalled windows 10 (20H2) with an internet connection present. After the installation and running windows update, I saw that I has the Nvidia HD audio device. I guess that means I had the Nvidia HD audio driver on my PC that Windows automatically provided.

I then installed the latest driver for my graphics card. I selected custom installation and only selected the graphics card driver and PhysX driver components. I also selected clean installation. In my case, I left the HD audio and USB type C driver components unchecked.

Before I started the installation, it said there was no existing versions of the HD audio, PhysX and USB type C components. Therefore, I was hoping the Nvidia custom installation would remove the existing Nvidia HD audio device even though the installer said I didn't have one. Anyway, after the installation I still have the Nvidia HD audio device/driver.

How can I remove it?

Note, the image I provided for the custom installation was not from my exact installer. I was just providing an example that I did not select the HD audio component and it said there was "none" under the current version.

Why do you have TWO audio drivers installed at the same time???

Try getting rid of one or the other.

I don't use NVidia but I suggest this fix for Via HD:

  VIA Driver Download Portal
  
  VIA Drivers and Support Packages Download
  
• 
  Download and Save Version V11.1100e Dated: 29-Jan-2016.
  
• 
  Disconnect from your Internet Network (if wireless, de-select Connect Automatically).
  
• 
  Open Device Manager.
  
• 
  Go under the Sound, Video and Game Controllers field, right-click VIA HD Audio, select Uninstall and also Delete The Driver Software For This Device, then restart your computer. **Stay Off Of The Internet**
  
• 
  Extract the files from the installer .zip file. In those, double-click Setup.
  
• 
  Install the VIA HD Audio and restart your computer.
  
• 
  Re-connect to your Internet Network.
  

 

Numerous audio devices - why?

Looks like you have audio drivers installed for your AMD card. If you don't use it, you should be able to just uninstall that aspect of AMD drivers. I don't use the Audio through my Nvidia card, so I just don't install that driver.

Or, just ignore them as you suggest.

 

Asus VIA HD Audio Driver, Windows 10

I have an ASUS G75VW. I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday and it seems to have disabled my internal speakers. I believe the default speakers run on the VIA HD Audio drivers but I am not sure. I also have a list of multiple NVIDIA High Definition Audio drivers
under the Audio section in the device manager.
