Windows 10: Nvidia reveals when it will stop supporting Windows 10

Windows 10 continues to be a popular operating system for gaming. While Windows 11 has overtaken Windows 10 as the most popular choice on Steam some time ago, millions of gamers continue to play their games on Windows 10.

With support ending in October 2025 officially, and a one-year extension the only official option to extend support, Windows 10 users may be worried about continued support from software companies and hardware manufacturers. Will drivers, browsers, text editors, and other programs continue to be supported after support ends?

If you look back at previous discontinuations of Windows systems, you may notice that support ended up quite chaotic. Some companies stopped supporting the operating system the moment Microsoft ended support. Others pledged a support extension of a year or two, while a few continue to support the older systems to this day.

Nvidia is a major force in the gaming community. It produces the most popular video cards for gamers and has just revealed its plans for Windows 10 going forward.

The company plans to support Windows 10 with Game Ready drivers until October 2026. This falls in line with the end of extended support that Microsoft is offering to customers who join the ESU program.

Nvidia writes: "Also, we’re extending Windows 10 Game Ready Driver support for all GeForce RTX GPUs to October 2026, a year beyond the operating system’s end-of-life, to ensure users continue to receive the latest day-0 optimizations for new games and apps."

Here is what that means: Nvidia will continue to release driver updates for Windows 10 until October 2026. This means that the drivers will include optimizations for new games as well as security fixes and other changes.

Graphics cards will continue to work, even after October 2026, but Nvidia won't release Game Ready drivers anymore. It is still possible that Nvidia will release critical security updates, but do not expect any new features in the released drivers.

October 2026 looks like it could become the designated cut-off month for software and driver updates. While some companies will continue to support Windows 10 devices with updates after October 2026, many will end support in that month.
