  1. OBJ file loaded with 3d axes inverted.

Hello.I am using microsoft 3d viewer to view 3d models created by 3df zephyr and edited by meshmixer. I need to load obj files in 3d viewer since they are viewed with texture mapping in color as opposed to STL files which view only as grayscale moldes. The STL files are loaded correctly but the OBJ files are loaded with the 3d axes inverted as you can see in the attached screenshots:Screen shot from 3DF Zephyr free Microsoft 3d viewer viewing the STL fileMicrosoft 3d viewer viewing the OBJ fileIs there a solution to this problem?Thank you very much.Regards.feri *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. 2. 3D Builder Export to obj with colors

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are facing issues with Windows 10. I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

The issue could occur if OBJ file is exported correctly or the file is corrupt.

3D Builder can view, capture, personalize, and print 3D models using 3D Builder. Download many kinds of 3D files and edit them using the 3D modeling space. Take a picture with your webcam and make it 3D. Personalize 3D files by embossing your name, or combine
models and pieces to make something new.

To assist you better, please provide the information:

    • Have you created another 3D format files through 3D Builder app and checked in another 3D modelling program?
    • When you say that "but the OBJ generated does not seem to contain texture/color information", by which app or applications have you tried to open the OBJ 3D file?

I suggest you export the 3D file to another file other than OBJ file. Check if the texture and picture is visible or not.

Reply to us with the information, so that we can assist you better.

Let us know if you need any further assistance on Windows related issues and we will be glad to help.

  3. Exporting OBJ files using 3D Builder

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand your query regarding exporting the OBJ files using 3D Builder.

I have researched on the issue and tried exporting couple of models in OBJ format, and found that currently the option to accept the prompts automatically for MTL and PNG files, after selecting the location to export the OBJ file.

I commend you for bringing this to our notice, as it can be useful for other users as well who export OBJ files using 3D Builder app. Hence, I would suggest you to provide your valuable feedback regarding the same on
    Feedback Hub app so
our engineering team can look into this for you.

OBJ file loaded with 3d axes inverted.

How to make Windows 10 3D Builder automatically load .mtl material when opening OBJ 3d files with textures?

When I open an .obj file in Windows it helpfully uses 3D Builder, and it also "understands" how to load texture files.

The way that wavefront obj 3d files work is that they use material files to define reference texture files.

This is a really simple case where at least three files correspond to one 3D asset. An obj 3d model file, a nearly trivial mtl file that references the texture, and the texture file which is a jpg.

All of these files are in the same folder.

When opening the obj, 3D Builder does not realize that the mtl is in the same folder. And it prompts, requiring us to "Proceed" to search the filesystem for the mtl and then subsequently all referenced image files.

THEY ARE ALL IN THE SAME FOLDER!

The flow is slightly better when using the 3D Builder's Open -> Load Object menu, this remembers the directory that you opened the .obj from, at least, but I have to manually navigate to the .obj file to begin with in the UI as well.

I wonder if there is any configuration that can help improve this horrible workflow. I guess maybe if the obj/mtl files used absolute paths to reference the file it may work the way I want it to.
