Windows 10: Occasional sound crackling/popping when on full battery or streaming

Hello so this is an issue that I have been having with my laptop for the past week and I can't seem to make it go away, I use a Lenovo thinkpad E495 and it has its own audio devices set up with it along with synaptics the default audio driver.Basically what has been happening is that i'm not sure if it's a connection issue inside with the wiring interferring but at random times, especially when the battery is at 100 percent charged, my audio starts to break up, making these cracking sounds and i've tried updating/reinstalling and troubleshooting the drivers along with altering the properties

Sound Crackles


Whenever I'm watching a stream or playing a game with a stream my sound crackles and pops. I'm using Sennhieser PC 363d and I've tried another headset and also speakers and I'm still experiencing the sound issues. It started happening about 3 weeks ago when I started playing The Division. When the sound is crackling it makes my computer lag and the LEDs on my keyboard skip with the lag. I'm not sure what to do, I'm hoping someone here can help me *Sad

Crackling/Popping sounds on Windows 10

I understand that you are getting crackling sound while playing back music in Windows.

I would suggest you to follow the steps and check if it helps:

Method 1:

Let’s run the audio playback troubleshooter and check if that helps. Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter.

• Click on the search icon below and type
  Troubleshooting.
• Then click on the Troubleshooting on the top of the Window.
• Under hardware and sound, click or tap troubleshoot audio play back.

Method 2:

Download and install the drivers in Windows compatibility mode.

• Download the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
• Right-click on the driver and click on ‘properties’.
• Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select operating system from the drop down.
• Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

Sound Crackles


Hey I'm really sorry for disappearing. Had a family emergency that involved me leaving the country. I hope you're able to still help me.

Some things to note. It happens on any game. Also when I started my computer, updates started to download. I'm watching a stream as they were updating and my sound was popping and crackling big time. I loaded up WoW and it started happened a lot while watching a stream. I watched my GPU power % on MSI Afterburner and it was dropping from anywhere between 90% to 40% power going back and forth. The game was running terribly, frames spiking from 30fps to 150 fps every couple seconds. LEDs on my keyboard were stuttering a lot. Everything seems to bog down depending on how bad the crackle and pop is.
