    Occasional SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED BSOD

Got a SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED BSOD. Opened the MEMORY.DUMP with windbg to see that the faulted driver was a Broadcom wireless driver (bcmwlhigh6.sys) that is not listed in Device Manager. So I thought I'd stop by here for some advice. The requested zip file is attached.

    At your convenience. Thanks.

    :)

It's definitely indicating bcmwlhigh6.sys qas the problem and there is no doubt that module is loaded and running.
    Try this.

Create a new Environment variable called devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices and set it's value to 1 as follows:

    • Right click on My Computer, Computer or This PC and select Properties
    • Click on the Advanced tab
    • Click on the Environmental Variables button
    • Click the New button under the User variables for xxxxx" area.
    • Set the Variable name as: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
    • Set the Variable value to: 1
    • Click OK as needed to close all the windows you opened.
To see the status of everything in Device Manager:

    • Open Device Manager:
      Click Hardware tab, Device Manager
      • Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings,
    • Click on View then Show hidden devices.

See if the Broadcom device shows up now. If so, right click on it an select Uninstall.

Thanks for your reply. It got me to look at the driver details for all of the shown network adapters. Turns out the Netgear USB wireless I use (because the Intel 5100 AGN was giving me trouble) includes the Broadcom driver! The Netgear driver is up to date, but its implementation of the Broadcom driver is not. Looks like I'm stuck, at least until I either replace this older but functional laptop or its adapter(s).

Thank you for your assistance and the new-to-me way to view hidden devices. I'll mark this is solved - mostly 'cuz I'll live with the current situation.

You can use a USB wireless adapter and disable the onboard one.

True, but its the Netgear USB adapter that's using the Broadcom driver.

Doesn't the laptop have a built-in Wireless? If yes, stop using the USB and see how that works.
Otherwise try a different brand of USB wireless, preferable another N version.

As I mentioned earlier, the USB adapter is being used because the laptop's wifi was causing trouble - even after I replaced it. If I get another related BSOD I'll get a different vendor's solution.
