  1. Oct 11 update: battery saver and brightness buttons

After the last setting, I cannot adjust the screen brightness huge issue for me as I spend a lot of time editing documents not working in settings/keyboard. Battery saver also not working option is dimmed and cannot click on it as usually had on a lot to ensure screen stayed at a more user friendly setting. I have tried a number of fixes that worked in the past, but not working now.e.g. I have tried windows button + X to access power settings. My system: Dell laptop, Windows system Home 10 21H2.

    :)

I certainly understand your concern and will try my best to help you.

I really appreciate all your efforts in trying to fix the issue.

There is a possibility that this issue might have occurred due to incompatible or corrupt display drivers or the brightness settings are not correct in the system.

      Enable adaptive brightness.

    • To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is running on battery power, click
On battery, and then, in the list, click On or
      Off.

    • To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is plugged into an outlet, click
Plugged in, and then, in the list, click On or
      Off.
    • Click Apply. Click

If the issue persists, follow method 2

    • At the Start screen, type Windows Update.

    • Click or tap Settings on the right side of the screen, and then select Install optional updates from the left results.

  3. Battery Saver/Brightness

    Hello,

I cannot adjust the brightness settings of my laptop, at all.

I also have no control of the Battery Saver thing

Yesterday, I had brightness control, via my FN keys and through various settings parameters.

I have checked a different profile.

I have checked a different monitor.

I have tried the Hardware troubleshooter.

I have tried the Power troubleshooter.

I have tried the Windows Update troubleshooter.

I have tried different power settings.

I have restarted more times than I can count.

Not sure what else to try.

I've seen several posts in various places about Battery Saver causing problems with Update, brightness controls, etc, and done all of the suggestions.

    Thanks.

Issue with Battery Saver: Screen Brightness

    Hello Karolina,

Thank you for your reply, however it was not very helpful for me. I never use automatically adjust for brightness (as you had suggested) because I had noticed significant battery drain and so I do have my brightness setting on low.

In your reply you state that Battery Saver does not include screen dimming, and while it is true that this does not appear within the app itself, it does appear in system settings: Settings > Display > Battery Saver Brightness [on/off]; "Reduces screen brightness
    when battery saver is active."

I don't know if you personally own or have much experience with Nokia Lumias (because I am unsure if this is an issue on other phones running Windows 8.1), but prior to the 8.1 Cyan update, Battery Saver would dim the screen when the battery would reach
about 20% or so in order to extend the remaining battery life. The Display settings I described above seem to imply this is meant to happen when Battery Saver Brightness is turned on.

Without this feature functioning properly I've noticed a significant decrease in battery life since updating to Windows 8.1.
