Windows 10: October Cumulative Update Fails

Only on one computer. I get 0x8007000d for KB4579311. I have tried multiple fixes with no luck. It has also effected .NET update which errors with (0x8000ffff). Any advice? If I wait for the next update could it work? Or am I now destined to have no updates work? Its a fairly new bare bones laptop running the current Windows 10 2004.

Cumulative updates failing to install

For more than three weeks now, TWO cumulative updates have been continually trying and failing to install on my machine - cumulative updates KB3197954 and KB3200970. I've tried manually downloading the fixes that have been recommended elsewhere and this
hasn't solved the problem - the fixes also failed to install, and my machine is still attempting and failing the cumulative updates. What's my next step?

Well:

Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection might stop running
The Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) service might stop running and might fail to send reporting data. You might also receive a 0xc0000409 error in Event Viewer on MsSense.exe.
Affected platforms:

• Client: Windows 10, version 1809; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019
  
• Server: Windows Server, version 1809; Windows Server 2019
  

Next steps: At this time, we suggest that devices in an affected environment do not install KB4520062. We are working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in mid-November.

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
