Odd filename at root c:\<12-byte hexadecimal filename> contains a 40-byte hex string

improving the information from the subject:There is a file at C:\ with a 12-Byte hex string as a name. It has no dot-extension.The contents of the file are another hex string which is 40 bytes in length. All the alpha characters are upper case.I would include the strings here, but since I don't know what it is, I'm fearful I would expose sensitive information. Can anyone tell me what this is?

    :)

  2. BOM(Byte Order Mark) hexadecimal bytes is displaying in notepad

    Hi,

In my Windows Server 2012 R2 virtual machine, I am able to see the BOM(Byte Order Mark) hexadecimal bytes of UTF-16LE format in starting of the file. I am using JAVA FileWriter saving the data. Can you please help how to not show the BOM in file. In another
VM with same OS I am unable to see the the problem.

    Thanks,

Automate editing of 100+ Hex Strings

It is possible as a PowerShell script, but writing it is not that simple.

You would need to create a file containing pairs of hex strings,
    containing search & replace,
then loop on executing the replacement.

This code fragment will help in the task, written for one
    search/replace combo:

Searching for a string within a filename in File Explorer

I want to search a folder for filenames that contain the word "Committee". When in File Explorer, I type "Committee" into the Search field and hit enter. It finds (highlights in yellow) files that start with "Committee" but not the ones where "Committee"
is embedded in the file name. For example:

    • "Committee-Mission-Roles-and-Responsibilities" = finds it and highlights "Committee" in yellow
    • "19510701ListClubCommitteesReportDirectorsBW" = Lists this file but does not highlight "Committee" in yellow
    • "20150526MinutesBoard" = Lists this file because the word "Committee" is in the text of the file.
Is there a way to do a search that lists only filenames that contain the word "Committee"? I don't want files listed if the word "Committee" is not part of the filename.

    Moved from ( Windows / Windows 10 / Files, folders, & storage )
