  1. OEM and Faulty Mobo on PC build

I built a new computer and installed windows 10 with an oem and have to replace the mobo because it was faulty (audio ports do not function) upon installation, will I have to buy a new copy of windows if I get a replacement mobo for one that was faulty on day 1?

    :)

Windows 10 OEM change faulty mobo to another brand?

    Hello,

I recently built and sold a PC to a friend of mine. On this PC I installed and OEM version of Windows as I believe I am legally allowed to do as the PC builder and not the end user.

After installing windows and getting the PC up and running there was a strange feedback loop coming through all audio outputs, after changing out virtually every component I found the fault was the mobo. I RMA'd it and quickly got a replacement that I then
fitted to the system, audio issue resolved.

I had to phone Microsoft to activate windows after it flagged a hardware change but there was no issue.

About 4 weeks in and the new mobo has developed a fault, this time with its built in lighting. I'd like to one again said the mobo back but this time replace it with a difference brand and model.

I know the OEM license covers replacement mobos if they develop a fault within warranty but I am unsure if it can be transferred to another brand and model? It clearly isn't a PC upgrade as it is only a few months old.

Would Microsoft allow me to use the same license if I change the mobo for another brand?

    TIA

    Matt

P.S. For anyone interested, the faulty boards are Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Ultra Gaming

  3. Moving OEM windows 10 to new build

I bought an oem version of windows 10 pro and installed it on a shuttle xpc, ie. Not an upgrade, a new disc for a clean install on a new, home made pc. I am now moving all parts installed in the pc to a new build.

Hence the cpu and hard drive are going onto a new mobo, in a new case. The old case/mobo would not be used at all with the windows 10 version i purchased.

Can i do a clean install on the new mobo/build using the same copy of windows 10 pro and re-activate the license, given that it is not going to be used elsewhere?

If not, is it possible to purchase an upgrade from oem to retail version as it would be much cheaper than purchasing the full version again.

Any help/ advice would be much appreciated.

  4. OEM and Faulty Mobo on PC build

    PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??
