Windows 10: Office 2007 in constant Configuration Progress after Fall CU Update

I updated my Win 10 Pro 64bit OS to the Fall CU last week. Now, every time I try to open Word, Excel, etc I get the MS Office Home & Student 2007 Configuration Progress screen. Not once but every time. If I cancel the screen, Word of Excel eventually come up.

Is there something I need to do in Office to get this to stop or is something not right with the Fall CU update?

I followed your instruction and received the following message:

"Setup cannot find office.en-us\ShellUI.MST. brouse to valid installation source , and then click ok. Please help

Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features

Scroll down to Microsoft Office

Select it

Click Change

Now, wait while the repair wizard starts up.

After the dialog box loads, choose the Repair option and click Continue.

This process may take a few minutes, but after completion, you will be prompted to exit and restart any open Office programs. You may then click Close. You may be prompted to reboot your computer to apply all changes and complete setup.

 

Since installation of Office is quite heavily married to the Windows system, I suspect you need a newer version of Office. Another issue could be that some registry or folder permissions are wrong and Office can not complete it's reconfiguration.

You could try a repair install of Office and see if it helps.

 

I am not sure if Office 2007 is still supported.

 

Jose, you're right. Tried to run a diagnostic on Office and got the pop-up that Office 2007 has been retired.

I'm still getting 2007 updates in 10 I have the small business version not the home and student though
But I'm not on the fall update yet or win-10 so I'll have to see about the functionality later tonight.

As far as I'm aware of it's in prior versions of windows office 2007 is not supported anymore win-7/ win-8-8.1.
It could apply to win-10 too.
Possibly the updates mentioned are killing it *Smile

 

It will still work but you will not get any more updates for it. If you do go on The FCU you will lose it.

 

If you can afford it, start an Office365 Home Premium subscription. This way your Office will always stay up to date, will be fully compatible with latest Windows 10 and as a bonus you get 1TB of OneDrive storage. OneDrive works really well now on Fall Creators Update since they implemented Files On Demand feature, which means that you see all your OneDrive files on your local computer, in File Explorer, but only files you actually need or use need to take up space on your Hard Drive. Once you don't need a local copy of the file, you can change it's status to online only and you save a few byte or megabyte. *Smile

I'm also sticking with Office 2007 despite the end of security updates on 10th October 2017. I'm updating to Ver 1709 in the next couple of weeks.

I have updated Windows 10 Pro 1703 (x86) with Office 2007 installed to Fall Creators Update 1709. Office 2007 still worked after the upgrade with no issues. Perhaps it helped that I had already got the latest Office update before the upgrade?

 

After updating about 10 PC.s from Win 10 1703 to 1709 all with MS office enterprise 2007 installed - i can report 2 cases where either Word or Excel stopped with error messages and reocurring configuration attempts.
Only deinstallation and reinstallation of office 2007 resolved the problem.
Office Repair did not help.
SInce then, all installtions of office 2007 work fine.... over a month now. Probably only until the next version upgrade of Windows?.
What determines if office 2007 survives the 1709 upgrade is not clear to me. Probably the two affected PC.s where moved from Windows 7 to Win 10 originally, but this is only one of many possible reasons. Anyway: deinstallation and Reinstallation of office 2007 solved it- plus all office updates should reinstall automatically .

 

@denis I was quite active in the thread you linked to and eventually I gave up and bought Office 2016 to "solve" my problem. Only mentioning it here to "close the loop" as it were. I spent far too many hours banging my head against a brick wall and it's so lovely to be able to stop! *Cool

 

I have one that was upgraded from W7 to W10 and Office 2007 survived intact, even in 1709.
