Windows 10: Office 2010 Repair & Change Problems

I want to change the Access options in Office 2010. However, I keep getting an invalid location message whether trying to do this or repair the installation. I get the same errors whether I configure Office from Programs & Features, running the .exe installation file X17-75238.exe from MS or extracting the installation and setup.exe files into a temporary folder from X17-75238.exe.

For example, I get the window shown below when I run setup.exe then select repair the installation.




I can navigate to the correct folder congaing the required file but I then get an 'Invalid location' message.




I enclose the log file which contains the following error.

LIS: wait for package "{90140000-0115-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}" to complete cachingLIS failed to cache download "{90140000-0115-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C" resource "OfficeMUISet.msi". Cache Error 0x80070003

I could try uninstalling MS Office 2010 but I fear I may face a similar problem and be unable to reinstall the program.Any ideas are appreciated.

It's possible there is a problem with my Windows installation but sfc /scannow runs clear. I could do repair install but I'm due to update to the Creators Update (CU). Is installing the CU effectively a repair and update install?

Using Office 2010 I Can't print office docs in Windows 10

Try repairing or reinstall Office 2010.

Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features

Scroll down to Microsoft Office

Select it

Click Change

Now, wait while the repair wizard starts up.

Choose Repair then click Continue.

If that does not work, uninstall Office 2010 then reinstall it.

Try repairing Microsoft Office 2010:

Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features

Scroll down to Microsoft Office

Select it

Click Change

Now, wait while the repair wizard starts up.

Select Repair then click Continue.

Failing that, uninstall then reinstall Microsoft Office 2010 and make sure the latest Service Packs and post updates are installed.

Wish I could state black or white on 2010. I've found when Office, any date, gets really cranky the only way to fix is to uninstall. I agree there maybe some risk in re-installing which could lead to more drastic steps but the program should install and be usable to a licensed owner.

There have been some issues where the product will not activate and in the past it has coughed up the error message that Telephone support is no longer active. Here is a link, should you go this route and should you experience this error. Maybe its been fixed.

For your last question, that is how I understand it, that is, installing Creators is indeed under the covers an in place repair / upgrade. If you reference the tutorial and use the media creator, today, you will get the Creators version of code. If you then type setup to as per the tutorial it does the "Fix" and you wind up with Creators. When ever I recommend people do the in place repair / upgrade I always warn them that they are installing Creators. To date no one has said I'm wrong. Others may have a different understanding.

Any chance you moved your users files, all of them, to a different partition. It was not apparent in screen shot but thought I would ask.

User files haven't been moved. I've configured Office 10 from Programs & Features, run the original installation file from MS X17-75238.exe, extracted the setup files from that .exe file using run /extract then ran setup.exe from a temp folder on my C drive and a USB drive. All failed with the same error. Googling the issue shows many others have had the problem but I've found no obvious solution yet.

 

Have you tried MS's removal tool prior to re-installing.

Thanks - I'll try that shortly. I was hoping to find a way of fixing the problem at source rather than reinstalling Office which may not work or doing a repair install.

 

I have Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 on 3 PCs and all give the same configuration errors as above. All PCs are W10 v 16097 build 1493.1593 and run Kaspersky Total Security.

Do other people running Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 have problems when trying to reconfigure or repair Office 2010?

 

I solved this! I selected the installation folder above the one requested and Office 2010 then repaired the installation or reconfigured Office as requested.

I extracted original Office 10 installation files using the command X17-75238.exe /extract:d:\temp\office10. I had to selected the d:\temp\office10 directory despite the installer requesting a lower level directory.

I think this is another 'bug'. Thanks MS for wasting my time.
