Have a problem restarting Outlook when going back to 2010 from 2013. Seems there was some kind of file format change when I upgraded and now it won't let me go back and set up Outlook 2010. Went back to using Windows Live Mail. Too much of a hassle trying to fix Outlook.

One of the problems with Office 2013 is the low contrast UI with only three "themes" which don't make much difference. Office 2010 is much better in that respect, but Outlook 2010 doesn't have EAS support (exchange email). The Office 2016 preview also has only three themes, but two of them, ie Colorful and Dark Grey, are a big improvement. That may not sound like much to justify the expense, but for some (including me) the faded, white UI of 2013 is really hard on the eyes. Of course they could have offered more themes or an add-on pack, whatever, but that's a different issue.

Hi -- the other things with Office 2016 -- compatibilty with Office 2010 --even the .pst files can be used (Documents-->outlook files--outlook.pst) - so no problem reverting back to Office 2010 or reading Office 2010 outlook .pst files.

Office 2013 was on my machine a TOTAL and UNMITIGATED disaster --especially if you wanted to MOVE files from an IMAP server to a local file --and then it was nearly impossible to find the local outlook files !!!.

If you HAVE office 2010 -- and are happy with it - no reason to upgrade -- but I do LIKE OFFICE 2016. OFFICE 2013 - AVOID at all costs --and unless you like HIDEOUS white colours use Shades to view !!!.

    Cheers

Well heck, I'm going to pull out my laptop with Office 2010 and see if I can setup an Outlook.com account using EAS *Nerd

    Edit:

I worked at getting an outlook.com email account setup in Outlook 2010 using EAS without success. Manually configuring the settings gives an option to use EAS, however I could not find settings that worked. Google pulls up many threads about manual settings, but no joy. I did however find another email app which supports EAS called eM Client.

I like the office 2016 programs but I have a subscription (academic) that lasts until 2018, so I think I am stuck with 2013 until then. The subtle changes for 2016 version are really nice enhancements.

If I can buy 2016 via HUP program then I'll get it as far as it reaches RTM.

That explains some of the shock I got Friday:

I and others in the deleted program name have had a close association with the author of the post for more than 15 years and it just takes the wind out of my sails to know that she's gone once more.

She was my PM for MSN, Vista and Windows 7 betas. Once Windows 7 RTM'd, Microsoft let a huge number of employees go and she was among them. She came back later with the Microsoft Office program, and now that she's done a fantastic job, she'll be gone again.

Way to go, Microsoft! Way to go! *cry

Does the standard version of Microsoft Office come with Outlook installed? I am running the preview and I really like the way that Outlook performs compared to Office 2010 Professional that I have been using for the last few years. I really need Outlook and I don't want to spend a fortune just to get it.
