Windows 10: Office and other apps from Windows 7 suddenly get error: cannot find

Hi,


Back in January i upgraded my Mum's PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10.


Everything worked fine, very smooth, her MS Office 2007 continued to work and other apps she had from Windows 7 worked fine.


However, in the last few days, she contacted me to say that her Excel app no longer worked. When clicking on the normal icon, it says "Windows cannot find ...".


I asked her to try other apps, and Word was the same. Also the backup program we used from Windows 7 - Ease US To Do - also has the same error. Windows 10 apps seem to be ok, she can still open .jpg's and use the web browser.


Here is an example of the message:


None of her files are missing apparently. She ran a virus check - all seems fine. You can navigate into Windows C: folders and find the Excel.exe, you can attempt to open it, but it still displays the same "cannot find" message.


Any ideas please?

Only supported on Win10. Sorry, 8.1 users, only 4 years old, gotta go.

• Office 2019 apps will be supported on:
  • Any supported Windows 10 SAC release
  • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2018
  • The next LTSC release of Windows Server
• The Office 2019 client apps will be released with Click-to-Run installation technology only. We will not provide MSI as a deployment methodology for Office 2019 clients. We will continue to provide MSI for Office Server products.

Windows Update suddenly hangs?

Windows Update is suddenly hanging for some reason... I went and downloaded and installed the first bunch of updates, restarted when asked, and now when I go back to windows update I just get the window with a white box forever. Reboot and it still does it. This happens to be on my main machine, running windows 7.

I've also noticed when I reboot it says configuring windows update, step 3 of 3, 47%. Maybe it somehow skipped something and is screwed forever?
