Windows 10: Office Home and Business 2016 Activated

My father had a laptop at his office which had an activated office home and business 2016. He got a new laptop and decided to fully factory restore the old one and give it to my younger sibling(s) for schoolwork. Despite this, when going into word 2016 on the laptop it says that the office subscription is still activated (note, there is no Microsoft Account signed in on the system). How can the activation status remain after a factory restore AND lack of account?

Yes, that is probably what is happening, another possible explanation is there was a pre-existing Office 365 trial version on that hard drive . . .

Open a new document in Word, go to File - Account

What Office licence(s) do you see listed there, is there one or two?

If there is only one (your Office 2016), then please try the steps on this page, to get your Office 2016 activated:

Restart (not shut down) your PC . . .

Go to Office 365 Login | Microsoft Office and if you're not already signed in, select Sign in

Then from that page, locate your Office 2016 licence and click Install . . .

I'm thinking option one is going to be my only option. I'm fine with that as long as I can get Outlook to work with my ISP's pop3 e-mail. Last time I tried that with the new 2016 install I could not get it to work, no way no how. All the same settings that work with the ISO install?

EDIT: I should mention, for me as far as I know, neither of these options are a subscription. They use two different keys but they are perpetual one time activation licenses. I only ran the new download briefly though, as I could not get outlook to work. I bailed and went back to what works.

 

OneNote 2016---Activation Wizard for Office Home & Business 2019

I have downloaded OneNote 2016 from Microsoft's website. When I launch OneNote, I keep getting the Activation Wizard for Office Home & Business 2019. I press Cancel and OneNote 2016 opens correctly. However, I would prefer to bypass this Activation Wizard. Why does it appear for a 2016 product?
