Windows 10: Office - intall 32 or 64 bit version?

I need to do a clean install of my operating system because of problems I am having with MS Office. Right now I am running the 32bit version and I wonder if I should install the 64bit version?

I get error 0x800702e4 when using sync center to sync my windows phone with Outlook 2007 on a Windows Home premium 64bit OS. Tried registry cleaner no luck. Can anyone help??

Hello. It is the 64-bit WMDC and 64-bit Outlook 2010 (Office 2010) connection that is broken. 64-bit WMDC and 32-bit Outlook (Office) seems to be OK. You still have to install 64-bit WMDC on a 64-bit system; 32-bit WMDC won't install. So the OP should
be fine since he is running Outlook 2007, which is 32-bit (there never was a 64-bit Office 2007 version). Confusing. Just wish they would support 64-bit Office 2010.

I am trying to install Microsoft Access Runtime on my new PC, Download Microsoft Access 2016 Runtime from Official Microsoft Download Center.

I have however, a similar message when I attempt to run either 32-bit or 64-bit versions:

Setup Error

We can't install the 32- (or 64-) bit version of Office because we found the following 64-(or 32-) bit programs on your PC:

Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component 64- (or 32-) bit Registration

Please unistall all 64- (or 32-) bit Office programs, then retry installing 32- (or 64-) bit Office. If you want to install 64- (32-) bit Office instead, please run the 64- (or -32) bit setup.

I have MS Office 2016 apps on my PC, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, and my PC in 64 bit .

How can I uninstall the Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component please? Its not listed anywhere.

Stay with 32 bit unless you have huge spreadsheets. 64 bit is not needed normally for office, and usually causes more issues.

 

Microsoft recommends the 32 bit version of Office unless you have a specific need for the 64 bit version, such as working with very large data sets. The 32 bit version will be installed by default, even with a 64 bit OS. The 32 bit version provides better compatibility with other applications and add-ons. See this for more information:

I had an issue the first time I installed the 64-bit version of Office 2010, first version it was available as either. I had a warning message to uninstall any 32-bit part of Office 2003 first, all I had left installed was FrontPage 2003 so removed it. It was a coincidence that my Domain Hosting Service announced discontinuing support of FrontPage extensions at about the same time so I went with Expression Web. The Office 64-bit version works fine.

 

Thanks for the replies. I am having problems with Outlook so I uninstalled it, removed the Outlook files and then installed the 64 bit version to see if it would improve things and it did not. I forgot that my Frontpage 2003 is 32 bit and I want to keep it around. My next step is to format my drive C: and do a clean install.

 

If you ever want to export Office to another program such as Thunderbird, the 32 bit version is necessary. Thunderbird is 32 bit and will not convert from 64 bit Office.

 

After a clean install of Windows 10 PRO 64bit I installed Office 32bit again. I managed to import my old data files and Outlook is working perfectly again. Thunderbird is good but I am too used to Outlook.

I had not done a clean Windows install in more than a year; it really makes a difference to a lot of things. After 3 days of installing programs I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. *Smile
