Windows 10: Offline Files not working correctly

I have a Windows 10 machine at home which I use as my file server since it's on most of the time. Other Windows 10 client machines on my home network have their user folders such as Documents, Music etc... pointed to this file server. In trying to make the 'Documents' folder available offline on a client machine using Sync Center, I find that it's downloading my other user folders including Music, Videos, and Pictures, which means it's gobbling up 300GBytes of space instead of the 2.5GBytes of space that's needed for the Documents folder alone.


Looking in the C:\Windows\CSC folder where offline files are stored, I can see that it's creating the following sub-directories under the Documents folder, which don't exist in the actual share:


- My Music

- My Videos

- My Pictures


After creating these sub-directories, Sync Center then pulls in all my music, video, and picture files, which accounts for why it's trying to gobble up 300GB of space, instead of 2.5GB of space!


This seems so WinXP to have the music, video, and picture folders under the documents folder, right?


How can I stop this behavior? I didn't have this problem with Win7.

Access issues with offline files can be due to the changes in the configuration of the device and/or the host/server. To better understand your concern, we'd like to know the following:

• If you're using the Windows Sync Center application to access/manage your offline files.
• If you're referring to the use of the OneDrive application.
• If your device is managed by a domain or an organization.
• The exact error messages that you're getting when accessing the files.
• The version and build of Windows 10 that you're using on your device. To check this, you can perform the steps posted on this

In the meantime, we'd recommend performing the following steps to verify the status of the offline file access on your device:

• Search and launch Control Panel using Cortana.
• In the Search Control Panel box, type offline.
• Under Sync Center, click Manage offline files.
• In the Offline Files pop-up window, check if its enabled.

This could be due to the incorrect caching set for the network folder. You may want to try the steps listed below and check if it works.

• Open Share Properties
  of the network folder and click on Advance sharing.
  
• Choose Caching and select
  No files or programs from the shared folder are available offline.
  
• Save the changes and reboot the machine to see if it works.
