  1. Old games run in a terrible choppy framerate

So I just installed Manhunt 2 and I was experiencing 3 FPS constantly, well idk if 3 but still it ran horribly. The cutscenes were fine but the menu and actual gameplay are the problem. I have a pretty good laptop that can run PAYDAY 2 and other modern games. So the problem here is EVERY OLD GAME RUNS TERIBBLE. But the thing is that some long time ago my laptop had a problem... endless black screen. It got fixed in 2 weeks, then I wanted to play dishonored 1, which ran PERFECTLY before I sent it to be fixed. Now..... why the #### am I seeing a powerpoint slideshow type of gameplay instead of 60 FPS like my laptop can.

    :)

  2. Wanting to run old games

    Hi Jameson,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. Your interest in Windows 10 is much appreciated.

I would suggest you to refer the below link and check the compatibility of the game with Windows 10.

Explore Windows 10 OS, Computers, Apps, & More | Microsoft

You may also try installing the game in compatibility mode.
Follow these steps to install the game software in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

          • Right-click on the game setup file and click on
            ‘properties’.

          • Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box
‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.
If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to get in touch with the game manufacturer if it’s specific to that particular game.

Keep us posted if you face any issues on windows in future. We will be glad to help you.

    Request: Higher framerate for games

A friend of mine was trying out Fruit Ninja on my LG Optimus Quantum (with Mango). She's a hardcore fruit ninja and pointed out to me that the windows phone version of the game, though otherwise almost entirely identical, felt "choppy" and was stopping
her from getting the scores that she normally gets. Then I saw Fruit Ninja on her 4 year old iPod Touch and was blown away at how much smoother the game looked and felt. It was obvious that the framerate was much higher (I'm assuming 60 fps rather than 30
fps). In a game like Fruit Ninja this makes a HUGE difference!

I understand the importance of saving battery power on a phone, but as a gamer I am really disappointed that a four year old iPod Touch can waaaay outperform my new windows phone 7 for 2D games. I am now having a hard time recommending this phone for gaming
now that I've seen how entirely limited it currently is compared to the iPod/iPhone devices. Old games run in a terrible choppy framerate :(

    Best,

    Allen

Old games run in a terrible choppy framerate

    Choppiness in games

    Hello, Windows Users

I have Windows 10 on my Asus Laptop, with the latest updates installed. My laptop screen is broken, so I use an external monitor(60Hz). When I play any games with vSync off, they just feel choppy and not smooth, even though I don't have screen tearing. I
don't want to use vSync because it limits the framerate to 60, and if the FPS gets slightly below 60, it makes the games very laggy.

    PC specs:

    Intel Core i7 4510u

    12 GB ram

    NVIDIA GeForce 840M

    Screen refresh rate: 60 Hz

    Games tested:

Among Us(smooth, but only with vSync)

Minecraft(Bedrock Edition is smooth, Java Edition has pretty good frame rate, around 80, but very choppy, low settings.)

I have also tried to modify some settings from NVIDIA Control Panel, no success.

    I appreciate any answers.
