Windows 10: Old Login Phone Number I can't change

My computer asks for a PIN number and wants me to verify via the phone text or call, but the phone number is an old one so I can't do that. I even changed my phone number and updated my account, but the computer still wants to use my old phone number. How do I correct this?Thoughts anyone?

Blocking Cell Phone Numbers

Here's one way to get around the problem. It's kludgy but it should work.

Get a VOIP based phone service or a magic jack. For 24/7 access, you're better off with VOIP that uses an ethernet adapter, but that's up to the user.

The important point is to find one that lets you create your own "black list" of callers. Usually they will have both black and white list options and these are usually a subcategory under the "do not disturb" or similar feature.

The provider will usually let you create a second number for $5-10 per month. You'll use this for your cell phone number. If it is ever compromised, you can change it easily without affecting the base number.

Forward the second number to your cell phone and give everyone that one as your "cell phone" number. There will be a delay of a few seconds as calls get routed, but who cares. It's not like any of us is on Obama's speed dial right?

Now when you get assholes calling you, just add them to the black list.

You can also block calls w/o caller id this way if your cell phone co. doesn't already do that for you.

 

Change phone number

I can't seem to find where I can change my phone number so I can reset my sons login. I recently got a new computer and I can't remember the email password for his acct. I need to reset it but the phone number Microsoft has (to send the code) is for my old
phone. I've changed my number for my acct but that doesn't seem to affect resetting the outlook password.

Unable to login to Paypal phone broken

I use an authenticator app on my phone for 2 step verification to login to paypal but my phone is broken so I can no longer get the code. I've tried using the microsoft authenticator app on another device but it's looking for a QR code to scan which I can't access since I can't login to paypal

Paypal tells me they is no way they can turn off the 2 step verification whjich means I cannot ever access my account.

There must be a way around this?
