Windows 10: Old number not linked still being used?

So I got rid of a old number a while ago and I recently changed my email and for me to log in I still had to use my old email. but one of the other options was my old phone number which I know is not one of my options. I tried using me new number that is linked and it did not work. I checked my info when I did get in using my old email and everything was fine in the settings. My old number is not there and my old email was removed. So why is my first number still being used to verify my account?
Microsoft support did not help me on this they just hung up on me. Thanks Microsoft

Here is the step to remove that old email address.

Start typing an email address into the “To” field. As soon as you see the old email address being recommended as one of the potential candidates, use the down arrow key to scroll through the list of suggestions. Once you highlight the old email address, type the delete key. In many cases, this will actually remove the entry not only from the current list of suggestions but from future suggestions as well. You may even find that as you mouse over the drop-down list the highlighted item will have an “x” to explicitly allow you to delete it.

Just do this step and your good to go.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
