My old computer is completely broken so I’ve decided to start fresh with a new motherboard and cpu along with a new ssd for the clean install of windows. While trying to fix my old computer I tried to do a reinstall of windows 10 and ended up reinstalling it on my second ssd drive the installation didn’t work for whatever reason as I keep getting an error that the installation process cannot proceed. My question is if I could transfer that second ssd onto the new computer even though it has some form of windows downloaded on it already. I plan to set up windows and download my drivers with t

  2. SSD Upgrade Question regarding HP 255 G7 Laptop

    Google is your friend. *Smile

This site shows the Samsung SSD listed above is an M2/2280, which is great news. In the comments after the video link posted above, it suggests the PC does or does not contain an M2 mount and if it does have the M2, it is capable of accepting an NVMe drive.

Some will suggest that the NVMe subjective performance isn't much faster than SATA but the specs are clear.
The interface for sata 3 is 600Mbps while an NVMe is about 5 times that speed.

Check this; Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (MZ-V7E1T0BW) - PCPartPicker

One last check for piece of mind.

  3. System Refusing to Boot from M.2 after plugging in old SSD boot drive.

So I've been troubleshooting this for the past two hours now and nothing is working.

I needed more space on my computer so I remembered the old SSD that used to be the original boot drive for my PC that was just sitting in there unused. I upgraded to the Samsung 960 Evo years ago and used the Samsung Data Migration to move things over.

I plugged in the old drive and my computer booted to it instead of the M.2 (Samsung 960 EVO) that I've been using for the past 5-6 years. I restarted and booted to BIOS to change the boot priority, but my M.2 was not listed. I turned the system off, unplugged the old SSD and then turned the computer back on, but it still refused to boot to the M.2.

Eventually, after re-connecting the old SSD, I was able to get it to recognize the M.2 as a boot option, but even after disabling the old SSD as a boot option and making the M.2 #1 in the boot priority, it still will only boot to the old SSD. Also, it still refuses to boot to the M.2 even with the old SSD unplugged. It will try to start up a few times then will say "Preparing Automatic Repair."

My goal is to simply wipe and reformat the old SSD to use as some extra space on my computer, but now I'm all sorts of messed up.
If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears! Thank you!

Old pc broke so I’m trying to start completely over but I have a question regarding ssds.

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Old pc broke so I’m trying to start completely over but I have a question regarding ssds. :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
