Fix the stuttering in external monitors

Do all games stutter on the external monitor ?

Are you using the same resolution in the games on the laptop as your are on the external monitor ?

What brand and model graphics processor does your machine use ?

    External Monitor Stutter

Business environment, 5x laptops, all experiencing graphical glitches in terms of all applications show lag/stutter when moving a window or typing using an external screen.

The issue never occurs when the laptop is un-docked and when working with the internal screen, or when the laptop is docked, the lid is open and the internal screen on.

The issue occurs when the laptop is connected to the docking station, the lid is closed and one or more external displays are used.

The issue can be reproduced when:

    a) The laptop is on and un-docked. The lid gets closed (internal monitor off), the laptop gets connected to the docking station and one ore more external monitors are used. Stutters occur about 50% of the time, so basically every other time one comes back
from a meeting with the laptop.

    b) Docked, sign off for 10min and signing back in, stutter occurs about 50% of the time.

The error can be temporarily fixed if the Intel GPU is disabled and reenabled in the device-manager, but occurs again the next time the laptop is undocked/docked.

Laptops used: Five Lenovo P1 laptops with dedicated Quadro P2000 and Intel(R) UHD Graphics P630 GPU's. I think this has to do with dual Nvidia and Intel GPU laptops, as there is a long thread on this topic in the Nvidia form:

    {{MetaTags.og.title}}

Does anybody have a fix for this, or is there another thread dedicated to this issue?

    Laptop External Monitor Stutter Bug

Hello everyone! Before I get into the bug, here the specs of my Gigabyte P57x v7 laptop:

    • GTX 1070 with 385.41 <-Latest as of writing this
    • i7-7700HQ (Intel HD Graphics 630 with 22.20.16.4771 <-Latest as of writing this)
    • 16gb DDR4
    • Samsung 950 PRO 512gb <- Windows 10 Home 1703
    • 2x Samsung 850 EVO 1tb

So basically the issue is whenever the computer goes from laptop display only or
extended mode to monitor only, there is stutter everywhere (can see this in the video below). This happens with both the HDMI and mini Displayport
outputs, which both come from the GTX 1070 (this issue doesn't happen using the VGA, which it outputted by the integrated Intel HD 630)

My first thought was that this is a problem with the GTX 1070 card itself or it's drivers, but after a long support session with Nvidia customer support, this was found not to be the case.

This was confirmed when I found the issue can be fixed by restarting explorer.exe while set to monitor only. Also, the issue does not occur if I start the PC in monitor only mode and no switch to that mode occurs while it is on.

Video of issue (might need to watch in 60fps to see it):

Does anyone know why this might be and can help me fix it? I've tested my computer pretty thoroughly and do not think it is a hardware issue (the laptop runs great besides this). The fact that restarting explorer.exe completely fixes the issue strongly makes
me think this is a Windows issue. It seems like some processes that get started on the integrated graphics card (the laptop display always uses this card in
    laptop display only or
    extended mode)
do not get properly started when switched to
monitor only (where the integrated card is inactive and the GTX 1070 is being utilized).

Things I've already tried to fix this:

    • I've fully reimaged the computer 3 times
    • I've swapped out the M.2 (OS) drive with a completely new one
    • I've replaced the RAM
    • I've replaced the two 2.5'' drives
    • I've tried over 10 displays/projectors all with different cables
    • I've updated all drivers and BIOS to latest as of this post
    • I've tried a bunch of older drivers
    • I've tried the fastest ring of the Windows 10 Insider build
    • I've tried the current stable build of Windows 10
    • Used sfc to scan the PC many times
Thanks in advance for any help/solutions to this issue!
