  1. Old user account with Microsoft account reappeared on the computer

Some considerable time ago, at least 2-years I had a problem with Windows 10 not allowing me to make changes. I called the help-desk and gave remote access to the assistant who after trying several fixes decided that my current sign in profile settings would not allow any access and we agreed the remedy was for him to set me up a complete new profile with a new sign in name. He did this, and migrated all of my profile information across to the new sign in.

This cured the problem, and some time later, when I was satisfied that everything had settled down, I deleted the old profile, at start up I had been offered both the old and new profiles to log into.

Within the past week the old profile has reappeared as a sign in option which is not too much of a problem but when trying to delete this I have discovered that my Microsoft Account appears to be linked to the old profile, not the newer one. My Microsoft account shows under the older Username and I am now very mindful of trying to make any adjustments for fear of losing access and data. As a precaution I have backed up my valuable data.

I would welcome any advice on how to ensure that a. my Microsoft account is linked to the correct user profile, and how to delete the old profile to avoid any future problems.

My system is currently running Version 1809

    Thank you.

  2. Zakin Win User

Strange Windows 10 User Account issue.

Unfortunately I had done those steps numerous reboots, it just, reappears for no good reason. The base account isn't even a Microsoft account, it's a local account.

I haven't quite tried the built in administrator account on W10, but so far in my experience on my own computer, the built in account seemed to have absolutely no more control than I did on my own.

It's just strange, I go in, it warns me twice about deleting the account, then it's gone. Reboot, and it's back?

EDIT: Just to specify, both command line and Netplwiz both say only HIS account exists on the computer, it doesn't list this rogue account. This is what I meant in my first post about the fact that even Windows doesn't seem to believe it exists, HALF the time. *Frown Old user account with Microsoft account reappeared on the computer :(

  4. Old user account with Microsoft account reappeared on the computer

Quick question about W10 user accounts

Local user accounts never leave the computer so no, doesn't matter. The initial account on all the computers I work on is "Admin" for example. Once I'm done installing stuff, I usually add a limited user account either tied to Microsoft or not.

You can't have two accounts with the same name on a single operating system.
