Windows 10: Old user still exists on C drive, new user does not exist on C drive but still exists...

I recently turned in my laptop for repair after I got a blue screen error. The error led to the laptop not being able to boot since no boot service was being detected. The repair comments state that Windows was restored to original factory settings. I set up the laptop and everything seemed fine. I noticed an issue the next day when I was downloading updates. I had to download updates I had already downloaded, and I constantly had to sign in on apps that i had already signed in on. I checked the files and it turned out that I have two users existing at the same time. The first user is properly

Moving an existing folder to a new drive keeping old FileHistory

Hello,

I have a windows 10 pc.

I have a new 1tb ssd and i want to move a folder from an old hdd (D:\Users\Image) to the new drive (let's say K:\Users\Image).

This folder is currently on the list of folders that are backed up with Start​ > Settings > Update & Security > Backup to an external drive, and when moving this folder i would like to keep the existing file history. Is this possible? How can I do it?

User folder exists on drive but isn't detected when signing in

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

You cannot move a user folder into a new Windows installation and expect that to work as a user, that process will not work, because there are many hidden files in a user folder that are used to register that user in Windows and contains all user settings... etc. and also all the registry keys for that user would not exist in the new windows.

The only thing you can do is move the contents of your user library folders (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos... etc.) from that drive into the existing new user on the new SSD and only the contents, do not move the actual library folders.

 

User folders in root C: drive

In my new Windows 10, these folders were generated:

• Intel
• PerfLogs
• Program Files
• Program Files (x86)
• Users
• Windows

Is there a policy of users generating new folders in this root C: drive?

On my old W7 PC I had several folders in C:, providing a shorter path for applications.

E.g. Is there an advantage when new Windows software is installed?
