Windows 10: Older video cards?

    Older Video .mov files play video but no sound

    I recall when I first upgraded to WIndows 8, I ran into the issue with my older videos playing in what was offered by Microsoft but no sound. When I spoke to MS they had no solution other than getting a third party player like VLC. This worked fine.
    I now have a new computer with Windows 10 and am very surprised Microsoft has not solved this problem. I guess they either don't care about older media or maybe they solved it and I need to find the answer. Any ideas besides adding VLC again?

    Older video cards?

    There is no trouble with the nvidia ones. Installed on a system with gtx285, and my current setup has 8800.
