Windows 10: OMG I don't believe it! 1511 ==> 1607 finally worked!

I had tried so many times to install the Anniv. Update and got a failure each time I gave up on it months ago. But tonight it installed OK. So I am now on 1607 Build 14393.693. I presume that's good - I gave up following updates quite a while ago.

My Update History says I just installed KB32139 which doesn't seem to have any fixes I will notice, but who knows. I wonder what happened that allowed 1607 to finally install.

Actually, I believe you can. If you don't want 1607 you can disable the Windows Update service. You can go to Windows 10 Update History page to see all the updates for 1511 and 1607. You can download the updates for 1511 only. You would then need to
temporarily enable the Windows Update service to install the 1511 updates you downloaded and then afterwards disable the Update service so you don't get 1607.

I too have been trying to update from version 1511 to 1607 with no good results. In my case I believe thwe Problems runs deep. All updates before 1607 installed fine. As a final try I formatted my HD and tried to do a clean install of version 1607 with no
joy. Tried to clean install on same computer and HD with version 1511 and went perfectly . This suggests that the problem runs deep and not due to rogue progrms like anti virus or other installed programs.

That is the latest one, also have you cleared any old files that might of been stopping the update

 

Yes, I did virtually everything anyone suggested to enable the AU to install successfully, but it never did. Until now. Why it succeeded now is a total mystery to me.
