Windows 10: On a new PC with Windows 11, user folder name is the email address instead of the user name...

Bought a new Dell XPS 17 9720 with Windows 11 Pro installed, and used Dell migrate to copy from the old Windows 10 Home pc. I used the same microsoft account for both pc's. It just finished, but then I see *2* user folders in C:\users - one folder with the user name associated with the account as it was on the old pc, but the other folder used the email address as the folder name, instead. All files except those from onedrive are in the folder with the email address name. When I connect to onedrive it will only use the folder with the "correct" user name. I haven't gone any farther unti

As per the issue description you are willing to have your name instead of email address at login screen.
If you are using Microsoft account for logging to the system then it will be hard to remove email address and show your name only. However, if you want then you may create new user profile as a local account with administrator permission. In this account
you may keep the name you want.

For creating new user profile you may refer to the steps provided below.

  Press Windows key + R
  
• 
  Type control userpasswords2 and click OK
  
• 
  Click on add under users tab
  
• 
  Click the option, "Sign-in without a Microsoft account
  
• 
  Click on Local account
  
• 
  Choose a name for the account

User Account folder name

I understand that you are facing issues with changing the folder name under Users folder in Windows 10.

I suggest you to perform the below steps and check if it helps.

1. Open the File Explorer and double click on C drive.

2. Open Users folder from the list.

3. Click on the user name folder and then tap on F2 Key.

4. Change the name of the folder and hit on Enter Key.

5. It will ask for Administrator Permission and click on Ok.

6. Folder name will be changed.

Changing the users name

Please be informed that Microsoft Account does not allow the User account information with only the first name.

• Follow the below steps in order to be able to change the
  User Accounts name.

Note: You need Admin rights to do the following.

1. Press Windows Key + R combination and then type
netplwiz in the Run dialog box. Click
OK. If prompted for UAC, click Yes.

2. Now in the User Accounts window, check Users must enter a user name and password to enter this computer, if it is unchecked. In the
User Name section, select the user name to which you want to change the name and click
Properties.

3. In the Properties window, in the User name field, provide the desired user name. Then click
Apply followed by OK.

• Follow the below steps to change the "This PC"
  Folder name

1. Open File Explorer.

2. In the navigation panel, right click on This PC.

3. Type in a new name and press Enter.

4. If you have an explorer window open, then close and reopen it to fully apply.

You will now see this new name in explorer instead of the default name This PC.
