My router currently doesn’t have IPv6 connected. Is it really necessary for a home router?

IPv6 Connectivity in Windows 10 version 1809

I did not noticed that I had an IPv6 connectivity issue until my computer was updated to version 1809. No IPv6 network access in IE11 or Edge, IPv4 connectivity was okay but the IPv6 issue was affecting the https websites (padlock keeps dropping out, web
page won't display until the page was refreshed). The IPv6 reset procedure did not work and I did not try the other suggestions on the web. The culprit that caused me grief for the last 3 days was my wi-fi router. My modem and my router are capable of IPv4
and IPv6 connectivity to the internet. My computer connected directly to the modem had no issues connecting to the internet in IPv4 or IPv6. After reading the manual on my router, I discovered that the IPv6 connectivity was not set up. The router's Auto Detect
for an IPv6 Internet Connection fixed the problem. Hope this works for you.

 

IPv4 and IPv6 Connectivity?

If you have IPv6 enabled for the network adapters you will see a default IP handed out in status, but when you list in Command all requests for DNS, you will not see any IPv6 ip's.

I really would not worry about it as I stated before. It will not have any affect on using the Internet or connecting within your network.

 

ipv6 isn't working on my desktop.

ipv6 isn't working on my desktop. I can see this with ipconfig that shows only the ipv4 connection. But I also see this because I can't set up a homegroup. I have four computers in the house. Two connect by wired connection. Two connect by wireless.
Only one of the wired connections fails to establish an ipv6 connection. This suggests that there is no problem with the router. Troubleshooters for homegroup and network detect no problems.

I did some research about this and found an article that claimed that uninstalling a third party firewall solved a problem. But the article was on one of the server sites and I am running straight Windows 10 Home on all my machines. Also the article didn't
specify WHICH third party firewall the fellow had to uninstall. I am running the latest Norton Security (or is it Symantec Security nowadays?). Can Norton be blocking IPV6? I really find that hard to believe.

Any suggestions?
