Windows 10: One drive deleted my desktop and now its not recoverable

please please please for the love of god stop auto checking settings after windows updates Microsoft I hate how you force us to use features we dont need and as a result it breaks workflow.I generally always ignore the forced "set up windows" pop ups after updates . But for whatever reason I clicked next next next this time.Today i realized it tried to auto sync my desktop to one drive as a backup through one of these settings and I subsequently lost my entire desktop b/c it forced backups of my desktop and then forced deletion through the space saving option.I currently have only dummy files

Deleted icons stay on desktop (not in desktop folder)

I can only suggest that you
1 Add a list of steps you have already taken.
2 Add a comment about restarting the computer. Do the deleted icons disappear then?
2 Add a comment explaining if any Desktop items do delete correctly and whether or not there are any significant differences between those that do delete correctly and those that don't.
3 Add a list of any OS tweaks you have done & any third-party OS-related utilities you have run.

I assume you have already reinstalled your display driver.
I don't see a Repair install as being relevant. Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

 

My desktop suddenly deleted!

Well, I figured it out – sadly it doesn't get my files back, but at least I think I know what happened.

I had Yahoo Messenger installed – it wouldn't work, so I tried to uninstall it, but got a message that the install.log was missing. The fix suggested on various forums was that the file was in fact where it should be, but for some reason unwise.exe couldn't find it.

The suggestion was to copy it to the desktop, then browse to there when it asked for it. I did that. Successfully uninstalled. It was shortly after this that I noticed my desktop to be missing.

I surmise, however, that the unwise (what an appropriate name) process deletes whichever folder the install.log is located in! Unfortunately, this deletion is permanent and non-recoverable.

Be careful what you read on forums…
