    Since 2010 One Note uses the set keyboard to detect the input language. Which is dumb. I'm using a german notebook with a QWERTZ Layout. I write my documents in OneNote in English. Everytime I enter something, the language will switch to german and OneNote disregards my proofing settings.All posts I saw regarding that issue were closed by you and the bug ist still not fixed. Get your **** together.

    Tooltips displayed in the wrong language

    Although my version of Windows is set to English and the GPU-Z "Tooltip Language" appears as "System Default (English (United Kingdom))", the tooltips are appearing in the language corresponding to my system locale (or possibly keyboard layout), not the actual system language. I frequently change the keyboard layout and date format (to match the clients I'm working for and the language I'm writing in), but the system language never changes (and software is supposed to run in that language).

    I can manually select "English (United States)", but this basically makes it impossible for me to select the "correct" language (i.e., UK English), because it doesn't appear in the list (other than as "system default" - but is then ignored). Obviously it makes no difference to me if it's in UK or US English, but people with other language combinations might have a problem.

    It seems the routine that populates the language list in the options is (correctly) determining the system language, but the routine that actually generates the tooltips is (incorrectly) reading the system locale instead of language.

    How to set proofing language regardless the keyboard layout on Windows?

    1. Go to settings > Region & Language.
    2. In "Languages" > Add a language.
    3. Add the language that you want to use for language proofing.
    4. Click on that new added language and hit "options".
    5. Add the keyboard layout that you want.
    6. Switch proofing languages with AltShift.

    Proofing of a new language

    Hi ClothingChip950,

    Got it, thanks. Now, in the Mail app, just ignore the language drop-down & close your Mail app.

    Go to Start > Settings > Time & Language > Language > under Preferred languages, select the English language > click on its' up arrow button to make sure it's at the top of the lists. Then open your Mail app, create a new message & your language proofing should
    no default to English.

    If you encounter errors, kindly send me the screenshot of the error for further checking.
