One of the USB ports of my desktop PC only recognizes storage devices

Title says it all. My desktop PC (Asus Z170i motherboard) has two USB ports in the front panel and several in the back. One of the front USB ports stopped functioning all of a sudden for certain devices. My USB headphones, Android phone, and Logitech Wireless Mouse are no longer recognized by this particular port. However, USB flash disk and WD backup disk are recognized just fine. All other USB ports function perfectly. Running Windows 10 64-bit build 1703. Re-installing the USB drivers from Asus website did not help. When I insert the device, Device Manager shows no indication whatsoever. Double checked the wiring inside the box. Everything looks all right. Thanks in advance!

Some USB peripherals stops working with an error code 43 in Windows 10 Pro

PC: HPE-521it (Hewlett Packard PC desktop)

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional (64-bit)

Recently some USB peripherals that first worked without problems have stopped being recognized by my pc and the Windows 10 error code is code 43: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
    (Code 43)".

The same peripherals, connected to another computer and with the same USB cable, work perfectly.

I tried to change my pc's USB port, but the error I'm seeing is ever the same in each port, the only solution to fix this problem is to replace the USB cable with another one, though the previous one was working ...

This happened to me with an external USB HDD and an Ipod.

This time, despite changing the usb cable, my system no longer recognizes my Huawei P10 Plus phone, which has always recognized, on the other pc is recognized with no problem with all the cables.

Would you suggest a solution to this problems?

The drivers are all installed and upgraded, it seems almost a problem of incorrect storage of USB devices in windows, but I don not know...

I have tried all the solutions found on the net but none has been successful (the only working solution, at times, is the replacement of the USB cable, which however seems ridiculous, because the old one was well functioning ...).

Thanks for the attention to everyone.

out of 3 USB ports one recognizes my flash drive, others not! why? What is the solution

    Hi,

Let's isolate the issue by using the Windows USB Troubleshooter. Kindly refer to the article below:

    Let us know the results.

Could it be the devices that are not functioning require removal via the "Safely Remove Hardware" function (Icon in the notification area)? These types of devices can get a Windows corruption status and thus will not work. To fix these devices, connect one of the, go to the Device Manager, USB section and there will probably be an Unknown device listed. That usually is the device. Uninstall the device, in the Device Manager. Then disconnect the device and reboot the PC. After Windows starts, connect it and Windows will detect and reinstall the device. Then, in the future when you want to disconnect it use the Safely Remove Hardware function.

After the "uninstall" procedure you may have to reinstall hardware specific drivers, if the device is NOT plug and play. If its a plug and play device, Windows will supply (install) the needed driver.

Thank you for the reply. But like I said in the OP, when I connect the device (e.g. USB flash drive), there is no new item shown in the Device Manager. Not even an Unknown Device.

Usually, what I posted is what the problem is. I too have an ASUS Z170 motherboard (ROG Maximus VII Hero).

Expand the Device Manager to show hidden devices, that may show something.
Its a "corruption" in Windows status for those devices.

Thank you for trying to help. But apparently there is something else is going on in my case. Steps above did not address the issue.

Reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers and see if that helps.

Also, is this a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port?

Go to Device Manager and look at the properties for your USB Devices.

Go through all the tabs... see if anything looks strange. Look at the Events tab too, anything recent in there that looks different?

USBdeview is an utility from Nirsoft, that gives some extra info about previously installed connected devices. Connect one device that will be recognized, then disconnect and with USBdeview clear history.

Not sure if it will help, you could try to get some extra info.

Also, did you changed anything in BIOS /EFI ? Are both USBs in front USB 3.0,

Edit: did you assign any kind of boost function to device at that USB?

I am afraid I don't know what boost function means. Nothing has been changed in BIOS and both ports are USB 3.0. It works occasionally when I plug/unplug the receiver several times. But one of which never ever works. Except for flash drives.

USBdeview shows devices connected to the other USB ports (e.g. USB headphones) but when I insert a wireless mouse or any other device that is not a USB disk, no activity is shown.

    ReadyBoost:
    support.microsoft.com | usb-and-sd-storage-media-readyboost-with-a-sd-card-or-a-flash-drive

It would be good to eliminate hardware problems, too (switch USB connections on motherboard and check if the same USB in front doesn't work).
