Windows 10: One of the USB ports on my laptop doesn't recognise my mouse, but recognises an external...

Hi, I've been having a very weird issue and I'm not sure whether it's a hardware or a software problem. Basically, one of my USB ports doesn't seem to recognize my mouse, it's been working completely fine up until today. I've tried plugging in other mice and they also don't seem to work when inserted into that USB port. All other ports work and recognize the mouse. The weird thing though is that I tried inserting an external hard drive to the port which doesn't recognize the mouse and it worked without any errors. I was able to browse the hard drive and it worked normally. Things I've done so

• I tried Safe boot (no luck)
• All updates are fine.

All devices work in the second port. It just seems to be that 1 port that only recognises the xbox box controller and phone.

It just wont pick up mouse or keyboard. I'm going to try and see if any external drives will be picked up.

I could just buy USB splitter for the port that's recognising everything , but the problems really racking my brains.

I know that if it was a USB hardware issue , nothing wold be getting picked up at all.

The keyboard worked in the port for a day then just stopped recognising it.

 

Laptop not recognising USB ports. Windows 10. Lenovo G710 laptop

For some reason my lap has stopped recognising my USB ports. I use an external keyboard as it's quicker for me, and an Olympus foot pedal. Neither are recognised this morning.

Lenovo suggest ringing Microsoft. Have any of you lovely people any suggestions that may help me? I'm hoping it's not the motherboard. I'm not that technically minded!

Why Won't Laptop Recognise USB Mouse

My USB mouse won't work with my Acer laptop. When I plug it in, I get a box in the bottom corner of screen telling me "USB device not recognised" and "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it". One thing I should mention, is the mouse is actually a PS2 mouse, but I am using an adapter plug (female PS2, male USB) between the mouse's PS2 plug and the laptop's USB port. I know the mouse works, because it's fine on my desktop PC, and I know it's getting power, because being an optical mouse I can see the red light underneath it. Any advice appreciated.
