Are you sure you wrote install as the last word? From your post, it seems you wrote netsh int ipv4 all, which is not a command.

Yes, it would affect both your wifi and your LAN cable as the problem is that windows doesnt have/cant access/has wrong network protocols. What the command does is install or reinstalls the ipv4, which theoretically should give windows ipv4 protocols back. You could try

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /renew

    Though i doubt it'll work.

  3. Thanks. I had typed the command incorrectly. However, it didn't fix the problem. I still don't have internet access, troubleshooter shows missing protocols, windows sockets registry entries missing.

  4. One or more network protocols are missing, solution

not an expert, but had a similar problem with troubleshooter telling me I was missing network protocols and could not fix it automatically. A search turned up this, and it worked for me, maybe it is the same as what has already been suggested,

    from the admin command prompt

    netsh winsock reset catalog
    netsh int ip reset
    ipconfig /flushdns

    then restart

did not try the following but some folks suggested trying a system file repair, if the preceding does not work,

    sfc scannow

recommend read about this prior to trying, I did not try it.

  5. Thanks Aurthur. I tried that and it didn't change anything. The SFC scan showed no errors.

  6. Thanks for the reply. I have gone back to Windows 7 and everything is fine. Perhaps it will be safe to upgrade to 10 by the July deadline?

I'm not an expert, so don't know what "elevated command prompt" is. Is that command prompt as an administrator?

  8. One or more network protocols are missing, solution

its always tough to know what actually was the solution, since most of us try a few different things, and then focus on the last thing tried as "the solution"(the fallacy of the straw that breaks the camels back).

I'm reluctant to suggest registry fixes, since they are risky, but in my case I also deleted my winsock entries,

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

[FIX] Windows Sockets Registry Entries Required For Network Connectivity Are Missing

I then used a winsock reset utility on majorgeeks. The utility claims to apply

Works with XP, Vista, 7, and 8 – and is fully portable!

    per the author(Winsock Reset 1.2)

    WinsockReset Foolish IT

so its a risk for W10, but I did it, and survived to tell this story. The error no longer occurs on my machine.

I ran the sequence of commands suggested earlier, but after I did this winsock reset.

I'm an older guy and make no claims to understanding any of this. I bought my first PC around 1984(10mb HDD and the ubiquitous 640k DOS) and been hacking my way through MS voodoo ever since.

Just thought I'd share my experience today:

Installed Windows 10 on a couple Dell optiplex 380's that were running Windows 7. I began the install within Windows using the latest ISO. Selected to install but not keep anything. Both had the missing protocol crap on first boot. I tried importing the winsock registry entries from a Windows 7 machine, uninstalled network adapter, reset winsock and rebooted. It didn't work. Tried in-place upgrade. That didn't work either.

This isn't a fix, but I gave both PC's static IPs and they connected to the Internet immediately. Switched back to defaults and no internet again. Fully updated with today's cumulative update and that didn't fix anything.

I'm going to try the solution in the first post of this thread tomorrow. Just wanted to offer this workaround for others.

    * "netsh int ipv4 install" command didn't resolve issue. *

  11. Yes, needs to run as admin.Right click on the Windows logo icon on the left end of your task bar, select "Command Prompt (Admin)".

This is my only post here and it is to thank you. So, thank you, sir.
I would like to point out that this problem started when I updated my Windows today.
I would also like to show how to get to elevated command prompt by linking the following: Elevated Command Prompt - Open in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
Finally, I would like to say that after typing netsh int ipv4 install in the elevated command prompt you must restart not shutdown or sign out the computer.

One or more network protocols are missing, solution

I also just experienced this problem today. I tried the 'netsh int ipv4 install'command but that did not help. Can anyone provide a solution which is not too technically advanced, since I am just a normal PC user, not a techo.

  15. Experienced this missing protocol problem for a long time and was able to get around it until today but today was a particular annoyance, so when I tried this command line and it worked first time I had to register and say thank you .Skeeter
