Windows 10: Onedrive connected office documents from task view open in web instead of the desktop app

When I click on windows task view items for word documents, they often open in the web-browser. My documents are linked to onedrive. Is this is a known issue? Does anyone know of a workaround to make these open on the desktop? I am on 2004 and this has been the case since task view was created in prior versions of the OS.

Links in Open Office documents doesn’t connect to web

I understand that links created in Open Office documents doesn’t connect to Web. However, it would be great if you can help us with the details requested below:

• What happens when you click on the links in Open Office document?
  
• Do you receive any error message/code? If yes, what is the error message/code?
  
• Which browser are you using as default?
  

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to refer the articles on
Using hyperlinks and
Hyperlinks and URLs and see if that helps.



You may also want to try resetting the file association for HTTP and HTTPS files to default and see if that helps. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows Logo key + I, to open
   Settings.
   
2. Click on Apps and select
   Default apps from the left pane.
   
3. Click on Choose default apps by protocol.
   
4. Look for HTTP and HTTPS in the list and makes sure that the protocols are associated with
   Internet Explorer.
   
5. If you do not see Internet Explorer associated, click on the application name and select
   Internet Explorer from the list.

Open app in cmd in specific task view

At startup, I already have 3 task views opened.
So I want .bat file to start my apps and I want it to be opened on a specific task view.

But if it is not possible on .bat, I'll look into powershell as suggested.

 

Timeline downloads a copy of Office files from OneDrive instead of opening the files in the corresponding web or desktop Office application

When opening an Office file stored in my OneDrive for Business by clicking on it in Timeline, the file does not open in the corresponding web or desktop Office Application.

Instead, my browser downloads a read-only copy of the file (and presents its usual file download dialog: "Do you want save or open this file.")

(It doesn't matter which browser is used.)

To reiterate, the problem is that Timeline downloads a copy of the file instead of
opening it.

It didn't always do this, but I can't say when the problem started.



I am on Win 10 Pro, Version 1909, Build 18363.535
