THIS HAS BEEN A COMPLAINT BY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE< SPEAKING FOR HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS.

I am FED UP with Microsoft for dismissing this issue.

EVERY time OneDrive I access a file on ONEDRIVE, even after it says everything is synced, it download EVERY file.
EVERY TIME I ACCESS A LARGE "LOCAL" FILE, ONEDRIVE DOWNLOADS IT. EVERY file!

When I am doing video editing and compilation, this uses up hours of my time EVERY DAY.

Microsoft's official response, "what's your problem? OneDrive is doing what it is supposed to do. It is syncing your files."

Well Microsoft, OneDrive is NOT doing what it is supposed to do. Syncing files means COMPARING what EXISTS and making a determination if a download is necessary.

1 If a file has the same file size, file name, file dates and times. You can bet the file has NOT changed.

2 OneDrive could do a CRC comparison. Perhaps it already does.

3 In EVERY case, the EXACT SAME files have ALWAYS been in the local OneDrive folder AND in the cloud.

4 OneDrive CONSISTENTLY decides to download the files.

    My settings have ALWAYS been:

    1 Start OneDrive on Startup

    2 NOT allowing file fetch

3 NOT allowing files on demand I use my computer offline a lot. I NEED ALL files offline.

4 I ALWAYS have OneDrive in a different location on a different drive.

Microsoft, you NEED to correct the issue and make OneDrive more intelligent so it knows that my files do NOT need to be downloaded. 700GB of files downloaded is ridiculous.

I SUE THE CLOUD AS A BACKUP and current usage storage. I also keep hard copies. I DO NOT WANT TO DOWNLOAD EVERY FRICKEN FILE EVERY TIME!

    :)

OneDrive Placeholders are coming back, now called On-Demand Sync

OneDrive downloading EVERY file EVEN after full sync. [IMG]

"At Ignite 2016, Microsoft has just announced that it is bringing Placeholders back to OneDrive on Windows 10. Now, they are not called Placeholders anymore — Microsoft is renaming the feature to “On-Demand Sync” which makes a lot more sense than “Placeholders”.

The company demoed this feature at Microsoft Ignite today, and it works just like it used to previously. As you can see in the screenshot above, the files stored in OneDrive weighed in around 9GB, but the actual size on disk was only around 3MB which is really neat. Of course, this feature isn’t anything new as it was available back in the Windows 8 days. However, Microsoft removed the feature with Windows 10, and after lots of waiting, they are finally coming back.

In case you are not familiar with OneDrive Placeholders, it’s a pretty neat feature which lets you see all of your OneDrive files on your computer — but they are not actually downloaded on your PC. When you open them, OneDrive will download the files on-demand, saving your local space which is really useful, especially if you have a PC that doesn’t have a lot of storage.

While Microsoft didn’t announce when exactly On-Demand Sync will be available to OneDrive users, we suspect it will be available with Windows 10 Redstone 2 — which is expected to arrive early next year.
