    OneDrive duplication costing me 80GB in wasted space


    Hi ....... when installing W10 on my desktop I came unstuck as I could not unravel the local storage VS cloud storage

    conundrum inherent in OneDrive.... it was some time back and, as far as I can recall was partially successful in my attempt to rid

    my PC of the app, inasmuch as the OneDrive icon/folder does not appear in the left-hand menu in Explorer ....it has taken up

    residence @ C:\users\myusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive ..... it contains a clone of the files on my Desktop/in my

    Documents folder..... combined total 80GB, which I'd love to consign to the Recycle Bin ..... any suggestions (I recall trying the

    expedient of simply deleting the offending folder, result I destroyed my OS install, though fortunately I keep an image of my

    onedrive duplicating my folders...

    Hi.

    Again, onedrive is going crazy and is duplicating my main folder, full of subfolders. It's locking me out of all my files. I have windows 10, Office 365 home. I paused synch at the moment before I have 1000 copy of my folder, which I can't open anyway!
    Please don't ask me any question that will further delay the repair. Simply give me a step by step solution and then improve onedrive so this won't happen again to so many of us. I suggest you also add "onedrive" in the list of "Windows Topics" below since
    thousands of users have issues with it.

    Does Onedrive duplicate Desktop files, images, and documents locally within the Onedrive folder on the PC?

    Hi Alex,

    Yes OneDrive will duplicate your files in the OneDrive Folder on your hard drive . .

    I find this very wasteful and really defeats the purpose of Cloud Storage. Te only way to avoid this is to set OneDrive to 'Files on Demand' however that option will mean that your files will only be stored on OneDrive and not on your PC

    All Cloud Storage Applications (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.) perform this duplication on your hard drive and that process can very quickly eat up the space on your hard drive
