Windows 10: OneDrive Error and now User Profile and all my data is missing

I am setting up a new PC for my boss. I was literally on the very last thing, copying over a folder from his old PC to his new one. After the folder copied the PC kinda froze so I rebooted it. He has an Office365 account so when I set this up, his user profile was tied to his Microsoft account, not a local profile. After the reboot, I get an error from OneDrive that says "this application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." Now, all his data is gone. As I was troubleshooting, I realized that his user profile is completely missing. Additionally - "This PC" and Control Panel seem to have also disappeared. When I search for This PC or Control Panel, I only get web results. The only way I can get to This PC is if I open the file explorer then desktop. Then I can go back one level to This PC.


I have searched and followed multiple help articles, including trying to find a windows.old file which doesn't come up in any search of mine, finding out what user profile I'm logged into by the command prompt and C:\users and it shows the profile I should be under that is disappeared in the users folder.


Please help. This was supposed to be ready this morning and I really don't want to have to wipe this and completely start over. Thanks so much in advance!

User Profiles not uploading at Start

Hi Ernie,

Your computer might have experience a fresh start when the upgrade occurred last December 16, 2017, and the user profiles on it got affected as well. However, let us not jump into any conclusions yet until we isolated your concern. Let's see if we'll be
able to recover the missing user profile using a command line in command prompt.

• Open CMD as Administrator.
• Enter this command "net localgroup “Administrators” [Computer Name][Missing User] /add".
• Once done, restart your computer.

You may also check if you'll see the missing user profile/s in Local User and Groups manager. Here are the steps on how to do so:

• Press the Windows + R on your keyboard, then type in lusrmgr.msc.
• Click on Users, then check if the missing user profile is on the right pane.

Let us know if the above steps worked.

 

The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded.

Hello,

When attempting to login to my computer, I get the following message:

"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.

User profile cannot be loaded."

I referred to this Help article,You receive a "The User Profile Service failed the logon” error
message,

but the only difference is I only have one user profile on this computer. So, I can't login with another user to go through the steps listed in this post.

Any suggestions?

Solution #1: Didn't work. Still getting the same startup profile without any of my programs.

This snapin may not be used with this edition of Windows 10. To manage user accounts for this computer, use the User Account tool in the Control Panel
