Windows 10: OneDrive files on my desktop, I want only my harddrive files on my desktop

I recently purchased a new PC with Windows 11. As a default, the desktop consists of all OneDrive files, folders, docs, pdf's, etc. Although I want all items that I save to my PC to also be saved on OneDrive, I want my Desktop to consist of files, folders, icons, docs, etc. from my hard drive. Please help. DT

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

OneDrive Sync altered many desktop files

ok...I got that part now about files needing to be in the local OneDrive folder in order to synch automatically..Though it seems i cant upload any files from my pc to my online OneDrive. Even those in the OneDrive local folders

There still remains the issue of those Protected Folders-Desktop and Documents-not synching as they should--as suggested by that screenshot-whereby I cannot stop and start the synching process. The Desktop and Documents rectangles remain not selected--regardless of what I do
