Windows 10: Onedrive Files reverting to internet shortcuts.

OneDrive folders not available on desktop. This is happening across our family account. I have tired removing the onedrive reconnecting and sharing the folders again and the same thing is happening. I have looked on the Microsoft help accounts and see that there are many others having the same issue. Please see attached screen shot showing internet shortcut folders rather than avaiable directly from the computer. This is no good for working on as it opens everything on the internet. Please advise how to fix. Thanks.Helen

Image Shortcuts in OneDrive not displaying image

Hello Marcel,

Thank you for posting here in Microsoft Community.

This behavior is different between shortcuts on OneDrive and local disks because OneDrive uses a different thumbnail caching mechanism than the local disk. For me to have a better view of your concern, I'd like to confirm few details:

• Is it only specific to this .JPG files?
  
• Are the files locally saved also on your OneDrive folder?
  

To force shortcuts to image files on OneDrive to show thumbnails, you can try the following steps:



1. Right-click on the OneDrive folder where the image file and shortcut are located.

2. Select "Properties" from the context menu.

3. Click on the "Disk Cleanup" button under the "General" tab.

4. Check the box next to "Thumbnails" and click "OK".

5. Wait for the cleanup process to complete.

6. Open the OneDrive folder and check if the thumbnail for the shortcut is now displaying the image.



If the above steps do not work, you can try check if the display file icon is turned on:

1. Open File Explorer and click the View tab.

2. Click on the Options, under the Folder Options, go to the View tab.

3. Uncheck the Always show icons, never thumbnails.

4. Tick the Display file icon on thumbnails.

Here also things you can check:

• If you're using a PC/Mac, ensure your computer's File Explorer/Finder view is set to medium-sized icons (or larger
  
• If File Explorer/Finder thumbnails still don't show, enable "Always keep on this device" for the file.

Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

I would suggest you to try the following steps and check if that helps.

• Go to the folder C:\Windows\System32 and sort by file type.
• Look for the screensaver file type (.scr).
• Find the file scrnsave.scr(you can choose any of the screensavers).
• Right click and select send to>desktop (create shortcut). The shortcut on my attachment, but when i click on it my screen goes off and on and nothing else.
