OneDrive files vs. local - must I keep both? Multiple devices question

I have a dead Windows 10 Dell laptop and dying Windows 10 HP laptop that uses OneDrive. I have 2 new Windows 11 laptops. I thought that anything I had on OneDrive would be visible to the 2 new laptops, but this is not the case. Something I did in early January made some of the OneDrive files visible to the new laptops. However, files that I have moved to OneDrive since then and files that I update on the old laptop are not available to the new laptops. Instead, I'll see an old version. I really need to move all files from the old laptop to OneDrive before I install a new hard drive and

  2. Local account installation question

I'm fairly certain that Skip this step was available in 10.0.130 - the workaround in Step 20 (back button) is no longer required.

The currently known, as of 10.0.130, ways to create a Local account sign-in are
    • Skip this step at the MS account creation phase
    • No Internet connection during the install
    • static IP (post# 2 by Fragment) - New (to me anyway)

File History & OneDrive on Demand

I know that "files on demand" aren't saved on my computer. However, I still have the following problems:

    • After starting a new File History backup from scratch (as suggested in the first response) the majority of my Onedrive , including almost all files that are marked as "Always Keep on this Device" are not backed up.
    • Even for files marked as "Files on Demand" - surely File History should be able to back them up anyway? The whole point of a good backup system is that you have copies of files in multiple places (and OneDrive's cloud system only counts as 1). The creation
of the file history would be download heavy as it copies every file to my backup device, but after that it should only have to download single files as changes are made.

    Sharing Onedrive files between devices

    Hi Pieter

Have you set up Office 365 to save to OneDrive by default, or do you save your Office Documents locally on you PC and then use OneDrive to sync those files?

If you use Office 365 on multiple devices and need access to those files on multiple devices, it is much better to set up Office to AutoSave to OneDrive. Then once you log into Office with the same Microsoft Account on all PC's you will automatically have access
    to your files . . .
